"£12M + £3M and 40% add on" Great complete speculation there since it's all undisclosed. Another Red-Top is reporting 5m with 5m in add-ons. Valuations are anywhere from 10m to 15m. He's come in to be 4th or possibly 5th choice on the wings this season. He's behind Theo, Arshavin, Miyaichi (work permit permitting) & Gervinho. He won't see much game time. A few CC & possibly easy FA Cup run-outs, that's it. He's one for the future, and will most likely replace Arshavin in a couple of years.
It's £12M + £3M for certain - its been announced that its our biggest ever player sell and the largest from the championship. The 40% sell-on came for the Telegraph who appear to have prior knowledge that he was going to be at the Emirates yesterday for his medical. No reason to doubt the accuracy given good insider information. Furthermore, although its supposed to be undisclosed and we are notorious for keeping information secret; am wondering if we might have let out some information to keep the fans happy - which we very much are. Need to make one final point - we did not need to sell him - we are a very wealthy club - I recall it was announced last season that we were the 5th richest in the league - based on the wealth of our late beloved owner. We were then and probably are now the richest outside the Premiership - although Leicester or Birmingham might dispute that. Notwithstanding - we were under no pressure to sell.
Maybe just maybe we both got a good deal. He is a cracking player his touch and pace are very rare. He can cross and score goals. Our Chairman has negotiated hard and you probably could not afford him in 12 months time (Chelsea, Man City etc) I wish him well, I think he has left to early, but gone are the days when SFC get bullied into a quick sale. Nice business and a quality player. If you get your centre back I am sure you will all be happy.
Post of the day, hilarious !!!!! Hmmm, so let me get this straight, he played in League 1, not even the Championship and he is supposed to be a potential world beater ???? Wenger needs a slap and so do the rest of you numpties for thinking good in League 1 means good in the championship means good in the Premier League ! For a small transfer fee .. take the punt, but for £12m, WTF !!!!
in which case the ten goals he scored for saints last season is even more impressive, imagine what he could do when he plays regularly for 90 mins.
I hate to use Football Manager as a key to my argument but.... on FM 2010 he was valued at £3,500 I think. Thoroughly overpriced and overrated Wenger has lost the plot, a lot like the rest of London.
In that case, based on the wealth of the owner, we are richer than Leicester City by about £3B. EDIT: Oops, just remembered I'm on an Arsenal forum. I'm referring to Saints here. Apologies..! One added point. The riches were for our sadly diseased owner, and now the ownership has been turned over to the whole Liebherr family. Goodness knows how much the lot of them are worth together.
AOC has gone straight into the first team squad so that suggests that he will be playing regularly this season. Somone mentioned it earlier - best to pay £12m for him now, than be priced out by City and Chelsea who will pay £30m for him in a season or two
Being that Arsenal never disclose transfer fees, you are just speculating on the fee paid for Squillaci
Squillaci was experienced, which is what Arsenal needed. Seemed a great buy at the time. AOC has gone into the Squad as he's under 21 so it's free to put him in - doens't cost anyone else their place. Might as well put Afobe and all the other youngsters in there too!
My mate is a huge Saints fan an he insists he is class. I think you bought him/he left two years too early. He will come good but obviously it's not who you needed to sign.
It seems Wenger is constantly buying for a future that never arrives. Arsenal will still be challenging top 4 next season but can't see them pushing for the league again.
How many experienced players has Wenger signed since he was arsenal manager, in fact most of his signings have been age 20 or below! Viera, Henry, Overmars, Flamini, Song, Theo, Diaby, Denilson, Van Persie, Nasri, Eboue, Pennant, Cesc, Ljunberg, Reyes, Jeffers, Edu, the experienced ones were relative unknowns with exception of Lauren (23), Gilberto(23), Petit(25), Kanu(23), Wiltord(24), Pires(25) , Sol Campbell(24 or 25) who really werent setting the world alight with their skills till they came to arsenal
