If fit I think he could, but he hasn't shown any sort of consistant fitness in the 2.5 (?) years he has been here.

Isn't that Kolodzi guy a left back? Seems a bit strange as that is probably one of our strongest positions with Bertrand, Targett and McQueen

Gardos was 4th choice when he was fit. No way will he suddenly become Van Dijk's partner. Koldzi is mainly a cb who can play lb as well.

He was only consistently fit for about 6 months when he first joined and was bedding in, recall him having a few games where he looked very impressive. Then he got injured and hasn't really been available since. I'm not saying we should be having him as a partner for Van Dijk as I can't see him being reliable enough fitness wise, and i have no idea how good/bad he is after such a long period of not playing.

I have only seen him a couple of times and that was at LB, and it was a couple of season ago now I believe. There were rumours a couple of years ago about us being interested weren't there? I'd love for us to try and get Lemos from Las Palmas if we are looking at centre backs but think we'd have no chance

He started as a left back at Lyon, but he's been a CB ever since.

    Rod for his back.
Set out to sign world class players......
    Give Darren Gibson contract extension.
A few more defeats and he won't be able to turn it around.

Wouldn't worry. VVD would never join everton. Not only is it a sideways (downward?) step but top clubs like man city and Chelsea are interested. It will be ignored by all those that know anything about football.

Club are definitely keen on the player and the links are solid. Useful because he can also play off the flank when we have a full compliment of strikers.

Can see it happening even if the club are keeping quiet on January dealings.

Thanks for the info! Heard of him before, haven't seen him play much. Seems to fit the mould for players we go for!

Has a 'style of play' section on Wiki:

Gabbiadini is versatile, creative and hardworking forward, who is capable of playing in several offensive positions, as a striker, supporting forward, attacking midfielder or as a winger on either flank. His preferred role is on the right, however, where he is capable of curling shots on goal with his stronger left foot. A dynamic player, he possesses pace, positional sense and good technique, which, along with his strength, allows him to play with his back to goal and hold up the ball for teammates. Gabbiadini is capable both of creating and scoring goals due to his intelligence and his powerful and accurate shot with his left foot; he is also an accurate set-piece taker

Also rated as a 87/100 for free-kick taking on FIFA and his overall rating is 81. (sorry to be that guy, but people do watch these players for their ratings) <laugh>

Said in the summer that I'd be happy to take him. It's a concern that he really hasn't played that much football in the past couple years, simply because of Napoli's strength up top, but he's been a good goalscorer on a per-minute basis throughout his career...a goal less than every 200 minutes in all comps in often goal-shy Italy (for the sake of comparison, Pelle scored one every 237 minutes here) and while often playing wide or in support, and he can make things happen. By way of comparison, he moves a lot like Jay pre-injury...tall and a bit skinny, much faster than he looks like he should have any business being, makes runs all over the place, but has far better ball skills.

I'd be surprised if we brought in a striker of his calibre in January, but it could be a situation where the club recognizes that he simply won't be there in the summer.

Obligatory YouTube clip. Can strike a ball but lots of space and some shocking defending there.

(Sits back still full from yesterday and dreams of a day when Saints announce an early signing before the window opens and he turns out to be another beauty)

A signing for the future- he won't be up and running quickly even if we do sign. We desperately need jay and long to score.

Why do you say he won't be up and running quickly? I know he's not played much but that's due to non selection I believe. If he's fit it will be just down to how well he can adapt. He may do that quickly, it may take a while, but no different to whoever we bring in.

And just to add to what FLT has written; we don't really have the luxury of taking our time over introducing him to the rigours of the EPL. If he's fit, but possibly not match fit, the only way to get through that is playing time - its not like its Boufal coming off a long-term injury.
