Transfer Rumours Saints January Transfer Window Rumour Thread

Overheard an interesting conversation between a particularly well-regarded national newspaper journalist who covers Saints, and another well-known national newspaper journalist yesterday.

If what he says is true, and I've no reason to believe it isn't, Jose needs to sort his **** out and start living in the real world.

 

I fear his head may be elsewhere at the moment. Seeing the pictures he's taking of modelling hideous fur collared brown coats, I think he does need his **** sorting out.

His head has definitely been turned by being in a winning Portugal side and being linked to a move to United. His agent probably hasn't helped. Was there a real offer that we were likely to take? Or was it a poor offer (considering we needed him) that gave Jose a longer contract on good money elsewhere. Or is the angst solely down to him wanting a longer contract here? He obviously feels hard done by and Les isn't the man to pour oil on troubled waters. A case of two men who think they are in the right....ouch.

 

Puel referred to Virgil as the captain in his prematch presser....though I don't know whether he meant a captain or the captain. Damn, I may have to listen to it myself.

 

It has felt like that for a while, yes.

Loyalty be damned, if it's "him or Virgil" I'll drive Jose wherever he wishes to go.

 

Sounds like Fonte has to go ASAP.

Very true.

 

There've always been rumours of Fonte "doing a Koeman" or "acting the billy big-balls" going back to the summer. It's nothing new, and it's why I have no sympathy for the bloke.

 

It probably won't, but that's not a given, there are a lot of factors which might decrease his price In the future (a serious dip in form both for him and the club, serious injury, him desperately wanting to leave ecc..)

But leaving that aside, i still think the club will rather accept a concrete offer now then wait for a hypothetical offer in the future.

 

Saints will not sell Virgil in January and will probably not sell him in the Summer. We tied a few players to long contracts last summer...in order to keep the team together for longer.

 

I have a feeling we may go for Anthony Modeste in the January transfer window.

 

Big fee, or something more....umm...oh forget it!

 

If, and that's only if, this is true, then I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Jose for everything he's done for this club. He's been huge for us and grown on our journey. We've been as good for him as he has for us and I'll never forget his massive contributions.

I wish him well at his next venture.

I was in Glasgow last week talking to someone who has his ear to the ground at Celtic (allegedly). He said it is 10%. I said I thought it was higher, and he commented that there had been rumours of 15% but he believed it to be only 10%. He didn't guarantee that!

£5m is a huge transfer kitty for Celtic, where they shop.

 

We'll be due some from Morgan's sale as well.

 

One comment on Virgil/Jose - neither appear to be letting it affect them on the field, so fair play to them both.

 

Or we could take the money off the price to come back

 

Fonte took real umbrage when fans said at the beginning of the season that he was sulking. Pointed out that he had always been a good professional.
