I just feel that cm is the hardest position on the pitch and a place for the best player to drive the team.

I just am anti the thought that a journeyman like a Parker or felliani are considered cms. And anyone with talent is pushed forward.

Coutinho would never be a cm for example. He needs others to do it... imagine gerrard and alonso side by side for us with a no 10 like coutinho in front of it.

A diamond if you will. Masch then alonso and gerrard dictating everything and a proper no 10 at the top.

Yes gerrard could play anywhere but for me if klopp got his hands on a 25 year old gerrard he'd be playing more like lallana or wijnaldum is now not pushed on hoping two lads behind him are doing the job and getting him the ball.

Midfield for me is a job where you stick with the ball.

This excuse imo of either not going forward (dm) or you don't bother your hole getting back (am) is silly.

The best cms do both. This is why Pogba pushed on is just silly. How can a cm control the game and make play ahead of the Ball? You have to be on the ball to control the game.

I like when coutinho does this cos it proves he's got a brain.

I would disagree with that too, I don't think he was ever a top class CM, he had too much of a desire to do everything to be a CM in a two as he'd always vacate the space he was supposed to be in but to be fair why would you restrict him to playing in a disciplined midfield role when he could genuinely do everything because of his engine and ability. Gerrard's abilities didn't suit playing in CM and the position didn't suit him.

I definitely agree with you that there is a dearth of English defensive minded central midfield players for whatever reason. Its a possibility that more talented players are pushed forward but I think the likes of Alli, Gerrard & Lampard all benefitted greatly from being pushed on and given freedom to support the attacks and use their dynamism (more so Alli/Gerrard) in and around the opposition box.

You think not going forward is silly but listed Makelele as one of the best midfielders? He scored 25 goals in a 800+ game career. End of the day not everybody can go forward, there's got to be balance to every side, that's why for every Pirlo there's a Gattuso.

surely balance should be acheived by players working together not one guy stadning there all the time. its predictable no?

you are right though... perhaps for every prilro theres a 100 gattusos.

Isnt Xmas when the Jews crucified Father Xmas? That's why Santa doesn't bring Jewish kids any presents.

Easter is when God first gave rabbits the ability to **** chickens, and the result is chocolate eggs.
