Are we talking about careers here or time at United?

If you're talking about careers then you might need to check into a special health unit of some sort.

If you're talking about United, no, Louis Van Gaal finished 4th in his first season and then won the FA Cup the following year, Jose Mourinho is 5 months in and has us playing great football and we're pretty much nailed on in a cup final under him already. <ok>

Sorry can't disclose any facts, other than to say it was property related, but it is a true story, and still hurts.

Any other manager, well most would have failed miserably of course. Most managers are **** in the grand scheme of things, but I'd have been confident that had our coaching staff not been dismantled we'd have been more than capable of top 4 the following season, under most respectable managers.

Just time at United yeah haha.

You're also sixth in the league under Mourinho and thirteen points off the top, he's hardly hitting it out of the park is he.

Just seems to me that United fans are happy to give Mourinho time when he isn't really doing any better than Moyes did. The quality of football might be better but Moyes arguably had a harder job as the person on the other end of the handover from Ferguson.

That's why it's always gonna seem odd to you then, if you think like that.

Jose didn't inherit a title winning team mate, Moyes did. Title winners don't turn to **** overnight.

At this sort of point in Moyes' United season, he'd just lost at home to Everton then lost at home to Newcastle. Nothing improved, it was that sort of disappointment back to back, all season. Of course we're happy to give him time, he's a proven winner.

If you gave a professional gambler £10k and he lost the first £500 you'd give him time, but if you gave a ****ing no-hope div £10k and he lost the first £500 you'd kick him in the bollocks and walk off with what you have left.

Can't believe I'm talking about giving time to a Sunderland fan, notorious manager chaser-offerers.

Maybe you wouldn't give the pro gambler all the money either if he hadn't made any money from gambling for a long time and looks a shadow of what he was when he was successful.

No question that Mourinho and Van Gaal are both better managers than Moyes, I just get the feeling that the Official United history books are going to show that Moyes was **** and I don't think it's fair or accurate given what followed him being largely more of the same.

I'll accept that Van Gaal's 'philosophy' was not suited to our game, his possession football really wasn't for us, but in terms of winning, he had Moyes beaten to a pulp. Top 4 and a trophy, I'll take that in exchange for the boring football he gave us. Moyes football was just depressing and painful, with no top 4 or trophy.

Your concept of a long time is fairly distorted, I tell you what isn't a long time, two years. That's how long it's been since Jose's Chelsea were champions (technically it's about 7 months since he was a reigning PL champion). Tell you what is a long time... since Moyes won anything.

Don't worry, for the purposes of this argument, we'll forget that a large proportion of this board wanted Moyes sacked after 10 games. <ok>

Two years was enough time to show that Mourinho was well capable of losing the dressing room, he had them nearly in the relegation zone. Not great.

I wanted Moyes gone after our start to the season but it hasn't got anything to do with this so yeah let's forget it. We're talking about United not Sunderland.

Again, I'm not saying that Moyes is a better manager than the other two or that he deserved more time. I'm just not convinced that a bit of attacking football but thirteen points off the top is a significant improvement on Moyes' time at your place. If you're happy with it then great but I'm surprised.

What you're trying to say is that you can say Mourinho is better than Moyes but if I say it, you can't understand it because of there being no difference to you between the two.

    Ok then mate. <ok>

I'll put it in the box with the Defoe v Zlatan argument you tried to have the other week.

Tried to have you patronising git. Defoe has scored three goals fewer, hardly a huge difference.

Wouldn't say nothing but I agree there's not much in it.

Defoe does have a better games to goal ratio though, thanks for pointing that out. The fact he's doing it at a club like Sunderland is really something eh.

Yep, Zlatan's not won owt for about 6 months either so technically they're exactly the same.

Stop bullying each other or I'll have to join in. The trio will have to reform and make this a ménage à pain.
