Looking at it another way. There are plenty of people who would love to be able to go down with man-flu until about January 2nd. They tend to be exclusively women though. ;)

Ah. Popularity doesn't mean it's good or that I have to join the herd. :)

I've just always been grossly under-whelmed by Star Wars. And I've made an effort to like it too.

Big fan me :),I know where you are coming from regarding popular films, one of my most hated films (Pulp fiction) is on most people's favourite lists and I just don't see what people see in that film......baffling.

Indeed. I find Pulp Fiction of minor entertainment only. The most entertaining thing is how mechanical the direction is. Another of the franchises, Pirates of the Carribean, I walked out on after 20 minutes. Truly awful. I've since endured the whole film on TV to see what I missed. It didn't improve. I've seen snippets of the other block-busters in the series. I shan't invest.

Now Harry Potter I grew to actually like after about the third or fourth film. There's endurance for you.

Problem is media hype sometimes , I remember when Gladiator was about to be screened and all the write ups said it was a "Hollywood blockbuster" ...."must watch" ....."fantastic " ....and it was neither of them :(

Yep. Whereas, I loved Master & Commander: Far Side of the World [same lead actor]. Apparently it only just made proper money, which is why there has never been a follow-up.

Saw it today with the nipper (he's 12). He gave it 8/10 and thought it slightly better than The Force Awakens. I give it 6/10 and thought it slightly worse.

Looking forward to seeing it :)...... I enjoyed the Force Awakens and if the Rogue is just as good I will be happy.

You're clearly too straight laced then and not imaginative enough :p

Try using The Force next time....

PS. There's something special about your 15 year old son telling his mates that he needs/wants to watch it with his Dad! Anything else he goes with his mates, but Star Wars... it's always Dad.

Nope, I have a lot of imagination. One of my favourite things is to listen to radio drama, when I have the time and takes a lot of imagination. And The Force is pretty infantile really, especially when you imagine it with Joda saying something like, In him, the Force is strong. Psychokinesis and telepathy. Ho-hum.

There's only one real overriding problem. I prefer the Star Trek universe, by a country mile. Actually, make that 100 miles. :)

Not a huge fan of Crowe as an actor generally, but he was born to play Jack Aubrey. Such a shame there hasn't been a follow-up. Whenever I'm reading an Aubrey-Maturin novel, I imagine [take note, FLT :) ] Russell Crowe saying the lines. Funnily enough though, he's saying them with David Robb's voice [Radio 4's Jack Aubrey], because David Robb just has a better delivery for the character, in my view.

"Infantile"... exactly. Kids have the best imagination.
