Racing today comes from AYR, NEWTON ABBOT, NOTTINGHAM and FFOS LAS.

One of the highlights on a rather bleak day of racing, will be the travails Fahey/Hanagan traveling road show as it journeys into Jock country in search of Northern riches to plunder. The trinkets look pretty thin on the ground, so they won't need too many pack horses to carry the profits back home.

They go into the 14:00 with an untraced customer called Cosmic Halo, who could be anything. maybe it's best to keep an eye on the markets. If it shortens it might run a race. There was a tiny bit of specking for Mistress Of Rome when it unseated it's rider at it's only start, but the two market leaders Lollina Paulina and Lady Layla will probably be the ones to beat thought.

The pair show up again in the 15:30 where they partner She's Got The Luck over 10f in a 3yo event. The ultra consistent maiden put in an ordinary last time out when supported. This is a weak old affair, so she has to have a half decent chance today.

In the 16:30, they go in with looks like only a rough chance in the shape of Normandy Maid. The filly showed some form in her initial campaign, being unplaced only the once in five runs, winn ing on two occassions. This time in however, she's been pretty ordinary. She's had 4 runs back and is yet to fill a place. She can gallop, so who knows, maybe today will ber her day.

In the 16:00 they have Ejteyaaz who probably has his work cut out for him today. This 13f race is wide open and finding the winner could prove a real chore. maybe the top weight Simonside is the way to go, as he's a course and distance winner. He's also a nice each way price.

    All naps and comments welcome.

G'day Cyc, hope you are well my friend.

The Champ looks set for a profitable day at Newton Abbot and I expect to see the name McCoy in the winning jockey slot on at least 3 occasions today. Arctic Reach looks very solid in the first, Dalrymple very interesting down the bottom of the handicap in the 4.45 but the best bet of the day must be Englishtown (NAP) in the 4.15. This one looks rejuvenated in his 2 runs thus far this season and stayed on really well last time to score over 2m 6f. Today's extended trip should really suit and off 103 he still looks very well treated on some of his previous form (has won off 120).

I also strongly fancy Alan King's Management (NB) to take the 3.15 event.

Morning, people. No 'selling hurdle' again at God's own racecourse, Newton Abbot, today. Why, I say, why?!? I will be at the next 2 Newton Abbot meets after today and will certainly be asking questions of the old racecourse executive if one isn't included on these cards. Nothing really stands out at that course today but one does on the old level.

Tiddliwinks (7.45 Nottingham) - this one is an old fave of mine and my long-term regular readers will fondly recall him winning 4 all-weather heats during the winter of 2009/10. Tiddliwinks has though, to date, never won on turf. However, despite this stat he has run some very creditable races since his last win (including 4th in the Portland Handicap and has been placed twice at Group level this term). His form in these Pattern races makes him the clear pick tonight and actually has 8 pounds+ in hand on official ratings. I think Tiddliwinks will get off the mark on turf in this heat.

By the way, for those who didn’t see it Saturday’s ‘Guardian’ got very animated about an unraced filly from the yard of Roger Varian - Firdaws (supremely bred as her dam won the Oaks and her granddam the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks). Made her sound like the second coming of Pegasus and they said there has already been shrewd money for her for next years 1,000 Guineas. Firdaws has 4 entries later this week so is likely to make her debut within the next few days. One to look out for, methinks.

ROTO: Very hard lines with We Have A Dream yesterday, took the 16s and thought Martin Dwyer gave him a very good ride. Could never have backed the winner but great 'dart' mate <cheers>

Tiddliwinks should win today but is he one of those horses who runs to the field rather than to his ability?

Blue Jazz looks a bet today in the second race at Ayr it looks a fantastic price at 5/2 against a motley crue.

Yep, Nass, and always wary of these conditions races to boot as taking form and official ratings to literally in these contests is often the quickest way to the poor house. But Tiddliwinks does look total standout, in my opinion, and if he does it really well could be yet another string to Kevin Ryan’s bow in next week’s Nunthorpe.

And how good was Class Is Class at the weekend, people...well he was class. A great galvanising ride by ‘King’ Kieren and he looked some animal as he bounded clear in the last furlong and a half. I think this one is now due a step up to the very top table.

Riots across Britain, global stock markets in meltdown. Is this the end of the world as we know it? (to quote REM)

With all the riots I expect Bushwacker to be popular in the 3.45

Nass re Blues Jazz - I think Benny The Bear will give him plenty to think about. Bolted up over C&D on Saturday and could well defy the penalty

Oddy I think you could do the first three in the weights in forecasts and do well in that race. Benny The Bear won well but I didn't rate that race and Blue Jazz is unpenalised for a good win in what I think is a better race. I also think the ground won't be as soft as it could be and wouldn't be shocked to see it changed to Good in the description

Morning all from sunny North London. The bad news is the football's been called off but with a bit of luck the carnival will go the same way and that will be very good news indeed.

Just the one bet for me today - Casino Night has actually not been running to badly in her last coule of races so I will give her another chance today in the 3.00 at Ayr.

I don't want to get us into too much of a political debate, but I was thinking last night- we have our pensions tampered with, we get taxed to the hilt, we are fighting a war in Asia, we lose soldiers frequently, and we see reports of stabbingsd and violence every day.

But what gets people rioting on the streets? The chance of a free Laptop and the ramsacking of JD Sports.

I feel sick to be British today.

I hope the Aussies let me in.

PS- MARJURY DAW (NAP) 9/2 3.00 Ayr. Ran a blinder in a class 3 last time and can shoulder top weight with a withering run under Fred Tylicki, who seems to be forging a decent partnership with James Given.

I follow Casino Night and although she has won off 70 it was at her beloved Hamilton Park! I would personally think this may be too tricky a race for her today.

Those thugs have stopped our England match and many Cup games, let's hope it stops very soon. Looters are just taking advantage now!

Mediocre day today but i am backing one in the 400 Ayr. Jeu de Vivre from the Mark Johnston yard and ridden by Franny Norton will love the softer ground and getting all the allowances could go very well at a nice EW price indeed. The danger could well be stablemate Hawdyerwheesht ridden by Dazzler Holland.

Finally, have been invited to the Open Day at Ferdy Murphys on Sunday so as long as he isn't talking too fast in his Oirish tongue i shall post a report from the man himself on Monday <cheers>

Toppy, I can't really comment on why they are doing it, but life obviously isn't easy for some so I won't condemn from my ivory tower. The issue I have is that we are not allowing the police the right to control the situation with force of their own.

We need a strong police and a strong political response, the latter should allow the former. We will see what DC has to say.

"Looters are just taking advantage now!"

That's the shocking thing. I've got some sympathy with what Nassau says but the people going out on looting sprees now are doing it for the fun of it. I imagine I'm not alone in thinking that if i'd have come home when i was 16 and had a new bike or video or whatever my parents would either have phoned the police or kicked the living daylights out of me.

The bookies have taken a hammering all over the city so we'll probably see more race meetings added over the coming weeks so they can pay for the refurbs........
