For me it has to be the song Linger by the Cranberries. Why? Because I hate football. I hate the greed, I hate the elitism, I hate the massive egos, I hate cheating, the corruption, the way the system is weighted so heavily in favour of a few big clubs and the fact that smaller clubs exist to essentially just be bigger clubs' bitches. And this has become the case in women's football too. Not to mention the mindless fans, not naming any clubs in particular *cough*West Ham United*cough* Yet despite all that, "I'm in so deep" and "You know I'm such a fool for" football, which has "got me wrapped around your [it's] finger" so as much as I hate it, I can't escape it completely... but I MUCH prefer the NFL nowadays. Saying that my interest in football is restricted mostly to Portsmouth, Farnborough and non-England internationals. So what song describes your relationship with football and/or Portsmouth?
'Portsmouth' by Mike Oldfield is a rousing piece of music when played prior to kick off at Fratton Park.
As an outsider but having been born in Portsmouth I would venture to suggest "The Long and Winding Road"

Whenever I hear Don't Tell Me that it's over by Amy McDonald (mainly because somebody stuck a great vid on You Tube to it) I think of our darker days of near demise - but two tracks really remind me of Pompey the team and the place - Town Called Malice just reminds me it is a unique place/island with tough working class roots and a couple of lines in Joe Jackson's Home Town regarding Waves, Seagulls and Football crowds makes me feel quite homesick and a bit wistful.

When Diana died in 97, after changing the original programme, they played the whole suite the next night at the proms, no-one applauded at the end, (by request) I'm not the biggest royalist, far from it, but it was pretty moving.
I love Amy Macdonald! I was lucky enough to see her live at Hyde Park during the Olympics. I've only properly heard her first album though, but Mr Rock & Roll is a great song (alas she did not sing it at Hyde Park). I'll check that song out though, Eastney.

Yeah it's a cracker for that roller coaster period and also reminds me of how many very, very good players we've been fortunate enough to have in blue. I know it cost us dear but they were fantastic times....even the decline had some real moments of never say die brilliance.
