Just come in from an evening singing some carols, eating a few mince pies, and having some mulled wine. Very English except for the fact that half of us were French, and we sang in both languages. No division between ordinary folk here, we just happen to have been born where our parents were at the time. Then I come in and find that my evening of goodwill to all has not reached Berlin. Sometimes I despair of those who wish to impose their will on others.

And the old Supporter's Club bar - sank many a pint in there. Can still picture Bert Slater sitting in his spot at the bar - always first to get there after a match it seemed.

According to my meteo forecast, today we had an extra minute of daylight, that will be taken back again tomorrow. The day after though we get an additional minute, and then lose it again on the following one. Really wish that the sun could get organized. :emoticon-0100-smile

Morning all. At last the sun has broken through after several days of cloud and fog. Not very warm still here, but down on the eastern Med. they are having temperatures similar to a summers day in England. I think that Christmas shopping is completed apart from fortifying the cellar and getting a little more more food in. We have not found any cranberry sauce in the supermarkets, so Mme bought half a kilo of fresh ones and will make her own. She says that she will need some of the port I have in store for cold winter evenings. :emoticon-0108-speec

Have you ever yearned for the days when football was more exciting?

It looks as if the art of defence was still in the making, or that Christmas diet was not fully understood.

Or the offside rule was somewhat 'different'. I think it was ok to shoulder barge goalkeepers back then too.

They had return fixtures a few days after I think because I'm fairly sure I saw Man U beat Burnley 5-1 not long after they lost 6-1. It was round about the time George Best made his debut, though I haven't looked this up and my memory may be deceiving me. What's my name again?<laugh>

I just posted that on the Ipswich board and JWM responded, "Yes but we thrashed them at Portman Road 3 days later!" So you're probably correct! <ok>

They did - two days later.

I just looked up our record from that Christmas - lost 1-2 at Carlisle, but thumped them 5-1 at home three days later, courtesy of a Dai Ward hat-trick. In front of the tv cameras too, as it was just about the only game in England not snowed off.

I think you are a season out BB. Christmas 1963 we played Walsall twice, winning 5-3 at home and 3-1 away. Pat Jennings was in goal for both games, and Charlie Livesey scored twice in the first game at the Vic. In the first game at the Vic we were losing 3-1, before scoring another 4.

Shame on me - you are perfectly correct.:emoticon-0111-blush

To pay for my error, I'll have to give mention to the season following that - a double over Luton. The perfect Xmas present. :)
