I gather we have been told not to expect any major signings in the January transfer window which I'm sure will come as a major shock to all of us on this forum. You couldn't make it up could you?
As RR said, no one is going to want to join a struggling team are they ? Hogan of Brentford has already said he will only look at offers from Premiership clubs so that's one chance gone. Personally I think he may have a bit of a high opinion of himself as I wouldn't say he was that good at the moment.
Similar sort of thing could be said for Dwight Gayle, I guess, but looking at him now, it would be difficult to deny that he made the right choice.
I think Hogan's head might be turned if Newcastle or Aston Villa showed an interest, but to be fair, why would he consider a move to Bristol City to be an improvement? I don't think we're a big enough club to use sheer financial muscle to wrestle away established championship stars. Barring any special circumstances where someone like that is a realistic option (like Tomlin was), I think we're right to look to rising stars/to the continent for signings. We won't prosper by doing the same things as bigger teams (which the majority of the Championship probably is), so we need to show some savvy and get these players on the way up.
If he gets into the Prem at all it will only be with someone like a Burnley or similar. I cant see the likes of Chelsea or Man City coming in for him.
Personally think he will go to a club like Brighton would be a cracking move for him. Premiership a step to far at this moment in time.
