Well you're always going to have this problem then. If people weren't being a **** themselves then this problem wouldn't exist. What is a cleansed bubble anyway? Having self control?
so it's ok that a black person can call another black person the N word because if you haven't heard it then you don't mix with them
Not really - I don't like it at all. But then it's not used in an offensive way most of the time in that scenario.
most of the times?? are you sure I have friends who are Pakistani and Indian - you want to hear them call each other and it's not friendly - I just listen to the abuse I have a friend who is Chinese who hates being called black because Yellow is supposed to be offensive you can't have it both ways personally I treat people the way they treat me
Obi is a fat **** = fattist Sweaty socks = jocks = racist Me calling @ValleyGraduate12 a sheep pumper once or twice is also technically racist... even though he does indeed pump sheep... although it may be sheepist I was once called, in Bradford, a white piece of filth.... seriously.... didn't bat an eyelid.
my mate keeps saying that I can call him a (rhymes with slinky) bastard I said I can't, and he said I can, because we're mates I said if someone over heard me say that, then I would get arrested he said that's why this country is fooked, and he's right
I can totally get the argument about "just get over it" because people can call me whatever, it's "water of a ducks arse" as JFK would put it but it doesn't make comments like that, or "smelly Arab" not racist. Nor does it mean you, me or they shouldn't have a right to not have to have it happen to them. It's all a matter of where one draws the line, unless of course one actively promotes racism.
Spot on. Call someone a **** but to call them a black **** is unnecessary, why does their race have to be brought into it. If Shelvey said smelly Arab then he should be punished. By all means call him a smelly **** but why mention Arab? Hopefully he just said "speak English" and in which case this is all ridiculous!
Is it racist? Furthermore it depends how you define race. Some recognise only 4 main races. Some say it is simply a group of people grouped together by historical ties. There are so many different perspectives and so many views. So for me I'd happily tell anyone trying to tell me what is what with racism categorically to have a look at themselves and realise their view is opinion and nothing else. So you go back to law and that in this country would determine Shelveys moronic comment (which is probably incorrectly used) is racist. Many Moroccans don't consider themselves arabs so if he was trying to be racist, he's made a **** job of it. Personally I find it all completely ridiculous, people are massively sensitive, and generally racism has turned into a ridiculous misused monster. I mean how often is xenophobia mistaken for racism? Honestly if someone called me a smelly Caucasian I wouldn't give a ****. But people want to attach a load of historical weight to things despite never having lived through the struggles and it having never actually affected their existence aside from a few sticks and stones. There is still genuine racism and racist bullying out there, but it's lost under a cacophony of utter ****e. This is a non event but under our laws and the justice system interprets them, it is a racially motivated remark. Not sure the FA had much choice or they'd have had the "groups" on their back saying they are actively encouraging racism.
Like most comments and players that get fined for it. It's more often than not just an idiotic off the cuff remark which has no real bad feeling behind it. Hes clearly not racist as he plays with so many players of differring ethnic backgrounds, doesn't dislike them if inagine. Tricky one one but if you make reference to someone ethnicity or race as part of an insult, kind of have no choice but to punish them as would lead to huge backlash if didn't.
The problem is though that Shelvey is being treated as if he went running around with a pillow case over his head, carried a burning cross and was persecuting ethnic minorities, the idea that not only do you have the match ban and fines but you also have the more Orwellian bent of making him attend an education course for an, if true, off the cuff remark is to me actually disturbing. I think we have in our public sector and bodies such as the FA become over sensitive in these issues, the punishment does not equate to the offense and we have a situation whereby ethnic minorities are allowed to commit far worse "crimes" because the authorities are hamstrung by their own fears in dealing with these issues when it comes from that direction. If Shelvey has said what is reported then yes he is guilty of abuse, but not to the extent that I feel he is being punished for, I doubt that if this was a case brought in a court that he would get a £100,000 fine or any actual custodial sentence for saying "Smelly Arab" to someone in the street.
