As a matter of interest, do any of you know why he is called by such a strange name - "Oxlade Chamberlain"? I'll tell you, but do stop me if you've heard it before. His great grandad was Neville Chamberlain, the British PM who came back from Munich in 1939 with that famous piece of paper saying "Peace in Our Time". Shortly after the country was drawn into an awful, bloody war and he was totally discredited as a politician. That Christmas he was slumped disconsolately in his armchair, still smarting from the humilliation, and his wife tried to cheer him up by saying: "Come on Nev, let me play a Christmas record for you - who would you like to hear?" Listlessly the ex-PM said: "OK, Slade", which explains why his great grandson is today called "Alexander OK Slade Chamberlain".
I just can't believe the amount we are getting for him if true!! Obviously I would have loved to see him playing for us this season, but i'm sure The Knight will step up to the plate and any other replacement we may get into the building! Great bit of business, well done Don Cortese.
T-Paine...ouch. Nev Chamb was a Brummy, so the taste for Slade rings true. With a bit of invented Scots heritage you could have "Och Slade"
So it looks like farewell, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, in a Saints shirt, we won't see you again. You were fleet of foot, and long of name, now you're off to Arsenal, where you won't get a game. You'll marry a WAG, or some other wench, and spend the rest of your days warming the bench.
I know it's all been said but I'll chip in with my thoughts. !. Yes, we'll miss him. He is a class player 2. He is a class player in League 1. He is untried at a higher level 3. £7 million for starters, with a further £8 million possible, plus a rumoured 40% sell on is good business for an untested 17 year old 4. We were excellent on Saturday without him 5. No player is bigger than the club 6. Perhaps Arsene Wenger should consider how we feel when he whinges about Barcelona and ManCity attempting to unsettle his players. 8. Hopefilly, Nige and The Don will spend wisely COYS
The Mail reckons that the way Lallana played he will be a ready replacement for AOC!!!! Lallana is not a replacement for anyone...1st on team sheet. Shows what the Mail knows about football.
Adam Lallana, that up and coming youth player with only a handful of first team appearences! Well done Mail - yet another brilliantly researched tabloid story
My mate made me laugh, his words to me were... 'Why the f**k are we spending 12million on a child from Southampton? When we could ahve gone for Lallana!'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/front_page/9559925.stm - Steve Claridge actually speaks sense for once !
Alex was quoted as going to Arsenal so that he can win trophies!!! Where has he been for the last 8 years???? He has won more silverware with Saints than he will at Aresenal.
If you ever fancy checking up on how Alex's trophy hunt is going, just check this website for reference
Actually it is £12m up front! £3m in add-ons! And a further 30/40% sell on clause! NC wanted to do business on our terms and he has kept to his word!
