Rogue One is awesomes ... those storm troopers are still the worst shots in the galaxy though

If you're a star wars guy you'll obviously love it and appreciate the throwback feel. But if you just want a good action adventure thing it's very good for that

I presume they will milk the thing to death... as i nprbably end up ruining it but this one is a really good bit of work and wills in a really good section.

I hear tell of a han solo anthology or something.. not sure about that.

In short..... the first 3 movies could and should be remade so I'm sure theres lots of possibilites to fill in the 18 years or whatever between the emperor emerging and this rogue one movie.

The foundation fo the rebel alliance basically is briefly touched

I HEARD that darth maul didn't die despite being chopped in half in phantom menace and he could somehow trun up.... i hope not.

yoda's story.. 800 years... surely his starting must be a story. and so forth and so on.

My view is this.. keep jj abrahams well away from it. RESPECT THE TIMELINE AND PRIOR ART. Abrahams was allowed piss all over star trek which is imo at this point pointless trash and and buggered up the original shows etc.

Couldn't agree more. I think he's a terrible producer tbh. SW Force Awakens was pretty mediocre too.

Did he have anything to do with Rogue One?

Not a thing and nor did he touch next one i think.

Its very clear star wars canon is very important to disney to milk the thing for the most they can.

Just seen Star Wars: Rogue One and F.UCK ME that was brilliant 10/10

THAT is what Force Awakens should have aspired to. THAT!!

Gareth Edwards and Rogue One encapsulate perfectly how you can bring the theme and feel of the original films WITHOUT having to rehash a plastic version of the original story.

Proper characterisation - yes, time actually given to building up some understanding of the characters, some empathy, and some invested interest in how they come together. Time given to actual plot development - we see a genuinely original storyline come together... so eventually when, midway through the movie our main protaganist exclaims the immortal line "Revolutions are built on hope" (and for the first time you hear the original SW music) you're going Yes YES! YES! choking up and with adrenalin pumping.

Everything before this point has been brilliantly crafted. Everything after this point is classic Star Wars, leading to the eventual climax - and what a ****ing climax it is. I was very young when I saw New Hope and Return of the Jedi, and I'd forgotten that feeling you got in those films in the final resolution, but for the first time in 30+ years I felt the same rush I had felt in those films as Rogue One reached its final battle and conclusion.

I honestly couldn't fault it. No plot holes, no plastic characters, no bullshit. Even the humour wasn't forced, but instead timely to break the tension... exactly as the originals. This film was real, and thoroughly gripping. It was chalk and cheese to the tripe served up a year ago in Force Awakens.

No inane central plot about everyone looking for some has-been Jedi standing on a cliff in the middle of nowhere, who actually had no bearing on current events <doh>
No ****ing bullshit about an Empire suddenly reappearing out of Abram's ar5e with no explanation <doh>
No complete contradiction to previous films with Luke Skywalker not giving a **** about EVERYONE he holds dear being in mortal danger; allowing his best buddy to die, despite the fact he spent 3, YES 3 prior movies making untold sacrifices to save the very people/buddy he's now so nonchalently allowed to die <doh>
No ****ing random Stormtrooper suddenly switching sides for no godly reason - completely out of keeping with ANYTHING in SW before. No random characters plucked out of thin air and thrown together to create a plastic version of Luke and Hans <doh>
No ****ing Golam from LOTR suddenly thrown in as some new Emperor <doh>

Take note @Bodinki and @luvgonzo <doh> THAT was what Force Awakens failed to live up to. The sad fact is that having watched Rogue One, and having seen Force Awakens, I think they've ****ed up the trilogy so much already to ever claw it back to the level of this film... but we shall see.

Before I forget, a special mention to:

Peter Cushing and Princess Leia - absolute class that <applause>

Anyway, I'm going to see it again tomorrow <laugh> <ok>

Some people take Star Wars waaaay too seriously. <whistle>

Kidding, I liked the Force Awakens but Iliked it for what it was, a Star Wars film which is essentially a kids film and has always been. From what I'm hearing Rogue One is a lot more serious???

No problem with that though and I hope they do more. Looking forward to the next part of the new trilogy and I'm sure it'll be fun.
