not necessarily all RP'S COMMENTS .. BUT we don't really have limitations to the squad .. we have players very capable but the moment pen goes to paper or finger to keyboard to announce the team that's the start of ....... it ..... we signed a team 12 and a sub! at the time ( sorry repeating previous) they were for the future .. now was that to get us back up from Div 1 ? COMMON SENSE everyone has it..... but some has better than others .. some never learn, when welding I sometimes wait a minute or so turn the work over and ouch .. spit like f*** on my singed fingers.. gloves, farther away from hotspot are all instant thoughts! ........
What is that in relation to? What's your point? I've actually agreed with you that this is strange in previous posts. Cheers Mystic Meg. I'd say the mere fact that we were trying to sign a striker on deadline day proves that this is complete crap.
we had a striker signed, and we have Wilbs and also Patterson who can fill a similar role so do not try and be so antagonistic with your replies, its not really crap, merely an interpretation of what has actually happened .. 1 up front losing 2 up front almost winning
I'd say your replies are also pretty hostile to be honest but fair enough. We have Wilbs, who can't last 90 mins, we have Paterson, who isn't really a striker, and that leaves Tammy and Engvall. I don't know why he's not being used, but either way, it shows why playing 2 up front isn't really doable with the squad as it is. If we're in February, still playing 1 up front with no sign of change, despite having an extra striker, I'd agree with you. But to suggest the plan all along was to have 1 up front with no backup (prior to Kodjia leaving) is a nonsense to be honest mate.
Also.plenty of teams play with one up front, Costa to name one, perhaps Chelsea are training Tammy for the future!! If I was the manager I would prefer to mix it around, problem I find with us, we are getting a bit predictable..of course when LJ changes things he gets accused of not knowing his best 11..
All opinions are individual but nonetheless we are still entitled to them. How many more seasons do we have to say these things at the turn of the year for some to finally realise that something internally is amiss at Ashton Gate. Guess what it is?
Of course, and that's part of being a football fan, people are never gonna agree. But what I'm trying to say is that this isn't unique to City. Until recently, for years we've been quite a small club, with a huge potential fanbase. We're not 'entitled' to Prem football, we're probably at the correct level for a club of our size. That doesn't indicate that anything is amiss at all. It's just the way success and failure comes and goes.
'Engvall. I don't know why he's not being used' Here's a guess - Junior doesn't think he's good enough. 'Also.plenty of teams play with one up front, Costa to name one', they keep a settled side and set up. 'If I was the manager I would prefer to mix it around, problem I find with us, we are getting a bit predictable..of course when LJ changes things he gets accused of not knowing his best 11..' 1For, you need to get down and watch more often. We are predictable - predictable that we change every game. And the last bit - 'of course when LJ changes things he gets accused of not knowing his best 11'. And you're surprised ? He doesn't have a scooby doo who is best side, even his most ardent supporter can't deny this.
Agree on Engvall, and I agree he probably doesn't know his best side. Both are worrying, can't deny that whatsoever. But I do think the fact we are predictable isn't entirely his fault, and it's been forced upon him somewhat.
using edit as it postexd itself!!!! KODIJA up front on own for first game . played 2 up front .. then played him wide a couple games didn't play v VILLA for obvious reasons . .. never started other than once 2nd game with 2 up front to start off season. Derby 6 games later he put out 2 then played him, Patterson wide next game .... next game 2 up front was Barnsley .it worked till he did his usual subbing and we drew ..... etc etc IN TODAYS FOOTBALL it has become the "terminology to call" the one/s who is / are "up front strikers! in actual fact you have the option of a centre forward, plus another centre forward or you can say a centre forward and an inside right or left or both and all would be expected to score your goals one of these would be the second "striker" in he absence of Wilbs or Engval... Bristol City have Patterson as a striker, as well as Tomlin along with the 3.
'and it's been forced upon him somewhat' This I can't agree with, he brought this situation on himself by his poor judgement of our summer signings. Junior's had more to spend than 75% of Championship managers. If it's been tough for Junior it's been hell for the 75%. And how many of the 75% had the good fortune of our Chelsea loan.
JGF - I think you're confusing 'forward' with 'striker'. A winger these days is, as you say, a forward. But going by that logic, we are playing with 3 up front every week, not 1, so what's your problem? Redprintt - How is it poor judgement? I'm not on about midfield/defence or whatever, that may be correct. But in reference to the number of strikers we have, it has absolutely been forced upon him by the fact that we had to sell Kodjia for silly money at the last minute. Surely you don't disagree with that?!
rp when you do your quotes can you give an idea from whom so as the post can be put into context...... tnx
please read more carefully what the arguments / comments are about before making comments like the above...... let me try to explain in simpler terms ... on here there is a strong feeling we need to play an out and out striker alongside Tammy .. we have Wilbs & Engval we have a number of wider players ( also for whatever reason referred to as strikers, but not exactly like Tam and Engval) and Tomlin who sits in behind as a play maker. Freeman Patterson play wider .. IN MODERN DAY FOOTBALL A BIT LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN INSIDE FORWARD AND WINGER SO the logic is we do not play 3 up front we play 1 with 3 or 4 on the supply detail.... anyway time to go cook my pheasant for tea nice cock bird with loads of meat on him .. getting 3 more brace tomorrow ... tis the season to be merry la la la ..........
Sorry, I cant agree that the squad has limitations in midfield. O'Neill is 32? Smith and Pack mid 20's Tomlin 27 should give enough experience. O'Dowda rarely gets game time, Paterson, is a good threat Freeman is in much better form. There is probably the best midfield we have had for a long time. When I saw the team sheet for midfield on Saturday, I cringed. Personally I would rest Reid. Has great potential but is wasteful and can lose possession in important areas of the field. Bryan needs to be rested for his own good.At 23, Bryan is no longer really considered a youngster. Where he does go wrong, which most of us can see, is continuing to avoid the blinding obvious of the need to have 2 up top and also the fact that O'Neill and Smith or Pack cant play in the same side. Tomlin is kept to deep for my liking and then has to run hard to get an attacking position when it arises. The build up play is so slow you might has well send an e mail to the oppositions defence telling them we are on our way. Sideways play keeps the ball but there is a lack of imagination, yet to say confidence. We need to look back at what we were doing well at the beginning of the season and repeat it. part of it, I fear was having a then unknown 18 year old up front who is now much more tightly marked. Keeper worries me though. Fielding is a great stopper but little else. Lucic wont kick and when he did, Preston scored from it. Not quite sure where O'Donnell is fitting in right now. Seems to be out of favour.
Agree with most of that. The club have failed to sign a decent all round reliable keeper and that needs addressing and has done for a long time.
I've been hammered on here since L1 days about my view of Fielding. Just a disaster waiting to happen.
I assume this side swipe is meant for me.- yet I have not been part of this conversation (until now) You clearly have not read, or are choosing to ignore my recent posts. For your information in case you didn't; I am NOT eternally loyal to LJ - or anyone else for that matter. I hold him ultimately responsible for continuing bad results. I also think he still has time to fix things. However, if things continue the way they are much longer then he will have to go and he knows it. Changing manager now would unsettle things at a time when we need stability. I have only attended one game this season, but I know plenty about our club and have been supporting them since before most who post on here were even born. I am perfectly qualified to comment and also, don't confuse an opinion which doesn't align with yours as a lack of appreciation for the game, or even simply wrong. I won't be at Wolves, but I will be at both Forest and Villa. See you there (if you can leave your bedroom) You really know how to press my buttons.....
