Spent Thursday evening at the Hoop & Grapes in Farringdon Street up Town at the PASALB Christmas get together.

Guest of honour was Argyle Keeper Steve Cherry who spent two spells with us in 1986/89 & 1995/96.....Steve is 56 years old now and continued playing into his mid 40's.....ending up in none league football at places such as Kidsgrove Athletic and Belper Town.

So much football has brought him problems in that time, and in present years as well......heart operation and a knee replacement which still gives him problems and he is having more work done on that soon......didn't thank us having to walk up three levels to the function room that we used last night....one of the things he talked about was his method of defending penalties and his positioning and the mind games he used to play.....he said he was proud of his record of stopping penalties.....maybe McCormick could learn something from him regarding that......... Lots of stories and yarns about his time in football.

Had to smile at a cartoon in todays Daily Mirror.....a picture of the Inn in Bethlehem.....Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus in his manger......along come the three Kings shouting out....It's a miracle......baby Jesus looks up from his manger and says......you got here by Southern Rail then.

Torquay United have been sold to Swindon-based Gaming International.....the cost has not been mentioned, although Torquay would have had to repay in January a loan of £125,000 to Gaming International, the deal is expected to go through by December 19th.

The deal will mean the present board would be stepping down.

The deal at present of Truro City sharing the ground will still be honoured.

How did Nick Skelton get in front of Mo Farah and his double golds double ?

Alistair Brownlee who came second won a gold in Brazil, but other than that had a modest season.....but is in everyones memory for helping his brother Jonathon across the line in Mexico recently.

I refuse to even bother to vote on anything like this. The winner earned several million quids for his troubles. To see footballers on the list as well is as bad. Mo also probably earned a million or two. I have more time for those that actually have to donate to compete and don't have access to a fortune. The only motivation they have is to want to win and do well in their field. I don't particularly like these lets slap ourselves on the back do's. Music awards voted for by music people, soap awards voted for by soap stars, actor awards voted for by actors. Aren't we wonderful type shows where it's yet another excuse to fill the TV schedule up with dross as we sit through watching them do it.

FIFA have fined the home countries for displaying poppies at recent internationals.

It is seen by them as a political symbol.....their rules state that any political symbol, religious, personal slogans, statements or images contravene their rules.

England have been fined £35,311.....Scotland & Wales each £15,694 and N Ireland £11,770.

England have already said that they will be protesting over the fine.

Personally what it says is that FIFA disrespect the value of what the symbol of the poppy stands for and that is unbelievable.

It's quite simple really. The home Countries just refuse to pay it and feck FIFA. Let them do their worst.

Just been watching the news on the tele. Christ how fecking depressing this World is becoming. Rusian Diplomat shot dead in Turkey in the name of Allepo and a truck once again driven into a crowd this time a Christmas Market in Berlin. Many would say the Rusians deserve anything they get for what they are doing in Syria but shooting a diplomat in the back is not exactly the answer to anything. The motive for the Christmas Market isn't know yet or even if it was a terrorist attack. But, we all know it was one and the motive once more will be in the name of a religion. We all know which religion it will be. The bloke me and mates always see at Argyle on matchday who does the gate supervising on the lyndhurst side was going to Germany for the Markets and beer with his wife. Hope he isn't caught up in anything.

What's next I wonder. More bombings and more shootings and christ knows what else these sick bastards can come up with. It's not easy to show much sympathy for any of these causes in my book.
