He did his best to pull out of it. If you want to call it a red, fine, but it was no worse than Barnes' 2 footed scissor challenge in the first half, and unlike Barnes he did not then proceed to dive, pull and cynically foul once on a booking.
A United fan complaining about rash tackles not punished fairly. Just the other day, I swear I overheard my kettle having an argument with the pot.
Swansea players can kick people in the face, not get booked and not even make it onto MOTD. That's probably the only thing going their way at the moment though, so I guess these things do even themselves out.
Punishment of these tackles comes down to how the ref interprets the laws. A straight red is only appropriate if the player is guilty of serious foul play or violent conduct. If the ref takes the view that the offending player has mistimed a tackle, but has not intentionally used excessive force against the opponent or has not been reckless in circumstances where the outcome was likely, the penalty should be a yellow card for a foul. The PL is played at such a pace and with such commitment that many mistimed or committed challenges look horrendous when players collide. It's like driving your car carelessly at 30 mph or 50 mph - in the latter case the same degree of carelesness is likely to have more significant consequences. If refs apply the law based on the outcome, then there will be multiple sendings off every game. A booking for Sissoko may have been right - as it may have been for Rojo - but not for Vardy, who was reckless. The difficulty, of course, is applying any interpretation consistently and fairly.
The "difficulty" , LDL, appears to be : 1. saying that Spurs 606 are not blinkered by a challenge by Sissoko today that could have resulted in something far worse 2. BBC Sport all over it when the Taylor incident last weekend (which was far more dangerous) did not even muster a word. Never mind. <the things that don't kill me only make me stronger>
On my way home from the lane. Amazing to see the new stadium...it's even had some seats put in! Thought we were much more creative than earlier in the season and deserved to win. Was at the top of park Lane so didn't catch the Sissoko challenge so it sounds like we got a bit lucky...like the Burnley bloke who should have been given at least 3 if not 4 yellows instead of just the 1. There was also the bizarre decision to blow for a foul to us when Eriksen was in on goal with a one on one with the keeper yet most of the time the ref was refusing to give fouls claiming he was playing advantage. Great result and a decent performance imo
One moan about Burnley...thought their fans acted like classless twats booing Dele for going down injured early on. Ref eventually stopped play after they kicked it out and the trainer was on for about 2 mins treating him and they all booed. They then booed Dele when he came back on. Never had any negative thoughts about them before today but seriously thought that was crap. Especially as 1) one of theirs went down a while later and we kicked it out and their was no moaning and 2) they were constantly wasting time and being warned by the ref from the 10th min onwards
Walker almost got his head taken off a few games back and nothing was said. The incident didn't make it into the MOTD footage. I don't even think the player was carded. Sissoko however has already 'escaped a red card' according to a BBC football page headline. Can somebody explain this disparity please?
MP doesn't bitch about such things. Sean Dyche has been telling the whole world that we only won as a result of the referee failing to send Sissoko off.
Do the football "media" hate Spurs because Pochettino never says anything controversial or have meltdowns in press conferences ??
He really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near our games. Dull, lifeless, openly biased and completely lacking in insight. Really adds nothing to the experience.
Yeah, it's sad to see WHL looking a bit of a sorry state but when you see the new stadium build right next door you don't stay sad for long.
