Yeah. He'd get forward but rarely scored. Bit similar to Hojbjerg, who quite likes a shot from distance but usually sends them into row Z.
Badly need a striker like Pelle, who can hold up the ball and let the others at least get 20yds further forward. Jay doesn't offer that sadly.
That one foot in their right on HT is practically the only thing Virgil has had to do today. Yes we conceded early on, but generally we've been comfortable. And in all honestly, unless someone like Boufal or Tadic creates a bit of magic, that's the best we can ask for right now. I'm content.
And similarly, if we're being honestly, more convincing applicants for "sub him on at half time" than Long.
Kind of enjoying this, competitive game. Pierre was having a mare, but seems to have sorted it. Reed doing a job. Could we win this?
Rather like watching two lightweight powder puff boxers who can't punch. Like to see Davis on for PEH who appears to be one of Bournemouths best players...
Christ Höjbjerg has been sh*t! Not impressed me much at all this season but it is worth remembering he is young, in a new country and league. Give him a season to adjust.
Jay just really needs to drop down to a level where he'll get multiple chances a game. The Premiership just doesn't offer that to him at the moment and the one or two clear chances he gets per game are being squandered as his anticipation seems to be just off the pace we need it to be. At the moment I'd still go for him rather than Long, though.
Was reading about Bielsa and Sampaoli and their teams transitions between attack and defence. Their formations are designed so they have wingers and always have 5/6 players attacking then transitioning to 6/7 defending the instant they lose the ball. Our transitions leave us with 3 attackers plus a full back and then left with 3/4 defenders when we defend against a counter attack.
Can see no point on taking off JRod only to replace with Long as we aren't looking for through balls just slowly inching down the flanks and slinging in a cross unless Boufal fancies a junking run
