It seems that the release clause would apply only if Spurs trigger a 12 month option to extend his contract in 2019. Hence, the 'no active release clause' in Spurs' response to the story. So, a complete nonsense, again. The press just love us, don't they?
They're at it again: from his comfy spot on the Sky Sports sofa, Matt Le Tissier suggests that City should make a move for Toby. Shouldn't he be more focused on explaining why it took him thirty years to come forward with his concerns about Bob Higgins? Also, there's stories circulating that Poch has put the kibosh on loaning Pau Lopez to a Spanish club in January, which is patently untrue: we can't loan Pau Lopez in January, for the simple reason he's on loan to us! And just when it looked like the democratic process couldn't take another hammering, Laura Kuenssberg gets voted Journalist of the Year. Who was the runner-up, Jimmy Liddel?
Guardiola wants £25m Tottenham star to fix Manchester City's problem area So much for Guardiola being a managerial genius: he expects Danny Rose to play as their entire back four and goalkeeper at the same time...
1. As well as scoring goals whenever Aguero is out. 2. Is the 25m the fee without the Levy tax, or the Levy tax ??
The Football Association is outdated, held back by “elderly white men” and has failed to self-reform, say five elderly white men who failed to reform The FA while they were in a position to do so.
Because the press haven't tried to dismantle our squad this week... Chelsea and Bayern Munich are among several clubs monitoring Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier, with the 22-year-old unhappy with his lack of game time at White Hart Lane. In other hack news, Alan Sugar has said he hopes Arsenal win the league this season, and when they do Wenger gives two fingers to Piers Moron and walks away. If ever there was proof that Sugar didn't have a clue how to run Spurs, this comment encapsulates it.
Dier's played 20 games for us already this season. I think Wanyama's the only player who's played more games. He's also played repeatedly for England, so I think he's had the least rest of anyone in our squad. Top reporting. I'll always be grateful to Sugar for keeping Spurs from going under, but he'll never really get the hang of football, will he?
Elderly is ageist and white is racist and men is sexist and all have nothing to do with the lack of football knowledge that is the real problem. Half a dozen human beings with extensive interest and experience of football would be a step in the right direction but as usual ,who you know, will count for much more than suitability, in selections for the positions
It's a twofer for them, though. They get to slag off the BBC and someone who opposed Brexit at the same time. This is the paper that went on a moralistic rant about him presenting MOTD in his pants, after all.
I'm glad that somebody pointed out tot he BBC that Franck Kessie plays for Atalanta, not Atlanta as their gossip page was reporting earlier today...
According to our red-topped friends, now that Los Ladrones' transfer ban has been lifted they will be signing the following players in January: Dele Alli, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Anthony Martial, Mesut Ozil, Philippe Coutinho, Eden Hazard and Sokratis Papastathopoulos - although they weren't clear if all those players would all be signed on the same day or not...
The Standard are pushing the boat out today... Firstly they run through yet another "Wimmer returns to the Bundesliga" story with all manner of incorrect information, such as his being fourth-choice CB when in actual fact he's second-choice left-sided CB - and with Alderweireld out injured there was no way any sane manager would drop Verts - or how he wasn't even trusted with a place in matchday squads at the start of the season...you know, the time he was recovering from a hamstring injury. Then they follow it up with Verts' mother saying he's homesick - by "home" she doesn't mean Verts' hometown Sint-Niklaas let alone Antwerp, where he began his career, but she means Amsterdam - complete with claims that Verts' Dutch girlfriend has not settled in London...even though Verts himself has said he and his family are settled in London, all of which means Verts' mother is looking as batshit crazy as Adrien Rabiot's. Still, that's not the hackiest bit of "journalism" in today's Standard - that would be the headline stating Theresa May has the luck and steady hand that Britain needs...a headline which caused me to laugh my hole off when I read it on the train home.
