Yup, I spent two hours arguing with a bunch of softies on the Liverpool board about the Rojo tackle. Vardy's was even better, in that it was the perfect tackle, got plenty of the ball and hardly any of the player. ****ing enrages me now that the ****ing ****** ref's pull for a red card as soon as they see two feet, or a player off the ground. Sending a player off for what could have happened? Gets stupider and stupider every time I hear it.
I would love a ref to send two players off for challenging for a header (two feet off the ground), it would set a whole new standard
Silly comparison. Vardy was going for the ball with his feet not his head and clearly had no control of the outcome and got player and ball. Definitely a red card.
If a spurs player went into a tackle with both feet off the ball I would be irritated with him, not the ref for sending him off. Two footed tackles when both feet are off the ground have been a straight red card for over 15 yrs. I remember Patrick Vieira getting one for arsenal v Liverpool back around 2000.
He landed 3 foot in front of the player and actually got the ball, the leg that caught the other player was bent at the time of collision, on the floor with the studs pointing away (he caught him with the instep)
FFS No player ever has control of the outcome when going in to a tackle, they have no idea what the opposing player will do, which way he will turn, which leg he will move etc. He got the ball, and brushed the player. This game really is becoming totally pussified beyond ****ing belief.
They haven't even called for the death penalty on the Liverpool board yet so it can't have been that bad
Lets not forget that the only reason Vardy was "off the ground" at the start of the tackle (like that matters, only matters at the moment of impact in terms of the severity of the tackle) is because he was shoulder barged by a Stoke player just before he committed to the tackle. Couple with the fact that he got the ball, and barely touched the player...... Not a red in a million years and I hope it's rescinded.
You can summarize the change for the worse by saying the buildup has gotten slower. Another way of looking at it is that we aren't looking to create chaos the way we were. We used to be willing to lose the ball more often in exchange for a faster paced game, and more opportunities to trap other players in their ends. Still, it's a long season. The only thing that's clear now is that Chelsea will walk the league unless they lose some form fairly soon.
In the universe of all possible tackles, a very small subset have the potential to easily do serious damage if they go slightly wrong. Vardy did one such tackle. To use a basic "absurdity" analogy ... I stab someone with a knife. I miss a fatal insertion point by a matter of millimetres. I should not be punished, because I "timed it perfectly" .
**** analogy. It would be like going to slice a grapfruit with a knife, but someone is holding the grapfruit. But still you slice it properly, doing no damage to the person holding it. But the police arrest you for murder and sentence you to life in prison anyway because you COULD have killed that person if you'd timed it wrong
