Did our central pair find out how to stop aging?

I'm not saying they are ****, just that they may or may not be not quite as good as they were two years ago

Elmo is just not a good defender fullstop and i don't rate robertsons defending ability, i believe he would be a far better winger

And marshall is a poor keeper, worse than what we had under bruce

I'll say it again. Its the same team in defence and midfield bar two and Clucas is better than Quinn.

It's not like we assembled a production line of clean sheets last time we were in the Premier League.

Macguire is horrendous defensively. Nowhere near Chester/ Macca (in spells) and even Junior in a back three,. If Macguire could defend, he would be suited for a back 3 for his ability to bring the ball out etc.
I do think you have a point though re he who cant be named, knows how to organise a defence. First thing Allardyce/ Pullis do in turning teams around quickly. And we will go down unless its sorted. We aren't good enough to score 3 or 4 every game.

Harrys a far far better defender than Mcshane ever was Askew imho.
But the rest i agree with. As you say we arent scoring enough. no shame there. But we ship goals constantly. Our midfield dont screen well enough and the 3 CB's dont offer cover to the WB's.
    It needs sorting.

I honestly carnt see the Allams splashing the cash on a striker:
A: they won't invest any money
B: I really don't think they'll trust phelan with a decent budget ( I'm not convinced they wanted to give him the job)

The only way it could happen is if we sell Hernandez for £20 million, will they invest the £20 million, would we get anyone better in today's market and even if we do we are just swapping one for another and not increasing our options

Put yourself in the Allums shoes - they're owed £70 odd million with, what looks like, no serious buyers close to finalising, they've got a team heading back to the Championship and someone happy to pay them £20 million ( <laugh> ) for AH. What do YOU do? (a) go out and buy 2/3 new faces for the team or (b) trouser the bulk of the £20 mill and laugh all the way to the bank.

Because we had twice as many centre backs to choose from and an alternative left wing back.

More importantly we had much more quality further up the pitch which kept us off the back foot.

No I agree totally, whilst I'm 100% behind the protests the Allams will just think **** you lot and sell Abel, pocket the 20 million and watch us sink like a stone

You understand I'm not slagging Marshall's performance. I just think we have a far better keeper on our books. Maybe two?

I like Maguire - He needs to play regularly. He's not blessed with pace, but he's one of those defenders that doesn't need pace as he always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He's also good on the ball and has a fantastic range of passing.

That liking for special whiskeys and gins is finally having an impact Chazz:emoticon-0105-wink:
I know I'm in the minority, but for me he just has too many mistakes in him. He looked lost vs Spurs, in terms of positioning. I think some are blinded because of his ability to bring the ball forward. I hope he does develop his defending, but I'd snap Boros hands off if they come back with £4-5m (or offer us Rhodes as part of the deal), but we'd need to buy replacements.
Macca's quite prolonged last spell in the first team after Bruce took him off the naughty step, I thought he was our best defender. He was keeping Davies out.:emoticon-0170-ninja
