Good player but £30m could be better spent elsewhere.

The reason the premier league is so hard to buy from in January is because we are all cash rich! In bundlesliga, eredivisie, ligue 1, la liga and serie A the money is not on the same scale as what it is over here. So we can afford to make offers that are just too tempting without breaking the bank.

Obviously that is generalising those leagues and ignoring obvious cases such as PSG, Bayern, Juve etc

Haha, I didn't mean a different position but a better player than Benteke.

Although now you mention it, we are a bit light in that area! :emoticon-0105-wink:

Saints are being linked with Daniel Parejo of Valencia. Very good player and is ideal for our current situation. He almost joined Sevilla in the summer but it fell through and he still wants out.

Plays as a centre mid and sometimes has played a little further forward behind the striker. Can both create and score goals.
5 assists and 3 goals in 15 apps for a team that is fighting relegation is not bad at all, especially for a centre mid.

He is exactly what we need.
    The player wants out
Reports suggest that Valencia are willing to sell.

    Fingers crossed!

I wouldn't mind us going in for Lukasz Teodorczyk who's currently on loan at Anderlecht from Dynamo Kiev.
Decent in the air, good at holding the ball up and can dribble.
No idea how much he'd cost though seeing as he's scored 13 in 17 for Anderlecht.

Parejo is a good shout. Proper pass-and-move CM with a bit of steel, plays a quick game that would add some urgency to our attack.

However, unless we get a major infusion of money, we're really in triage mode at this point; we have a number of soft spots in the team, and finite resources to fill them. I'd very much like a CM in that style, but I'm not sure it's higher in priority than a striker, 1-2 CBs, and a right back.

Providing that Fonte stays I'd say it is right up there with a striker in terms of importance. Obviously Jay and Shane have been poor this season and now with Austin injured it is even more important to bring someone else in. However our lack of goals is partly due to lack of a quality striker but also because we lack anyone to transition defence into attack. Someone like Parejo would make a huge difference. Realistically I'd be happy with a forward thinking CM and a striker. A CB and maybe a right back (depending on Pied) can wait til summer.

If we shop in Iceland, we could get 3 for 2 on most things.

Berbatov is training with ManU and looking for a Prem club. I guess he'd want mega-wages but could do a job for us on loan.

He hasn't got a club at the moment which is why he is training with them. He's also 35. I really hope we have better options than that. If not, let's get Rickie back or play the youngsters. I am sure we can find someone quite a bit better with the black box.

I'd imagine any such additions will happen in the summer, barring a truly miserable next few weeks.

Normally I would agree with you. Saints rarely do business in January but with Austin's injury and the clearly poor form of the other 2 I expect one striker. The fact we have been linked with a few CM's suggests we are in the market for one and agents are aware of it. So they send feeders out to the press in order to create interest about a player.

I think we will as well.
But, I'm not looking forward to the anger on Jan 1st when the guy is not through the door, a little patience will certainly be required.

Not sure if it has been posted already but a potential loan deal for Lucas Perez? As far as loan options go this could be a good one for us. I've read it enough places to think it might be possible, also heard it from an Arsenal supporting friend of mine.

It means we don't pay over the odds for a January panic buy, we are getting the services of a £17M rated striker with very little risk and Arsenal get him some game time at a club that really won't be challenging for the same positions in the league as them.
