The hospital is safe for now, according to ITV (via their official twitter account).

There'll be a riot if the Tottenham v Everton game is called off.

    PMK

This IS different to the 80s riots. The cry then was "there's nothing down for you lad" and there wasn't!. Yes there was violence and yes buildings did get burnt but there was not the widespread looting.

I don't share all of Skylarkers views but I certainly support his last statement. There is no respect for people. Until we somehow give people economic opportunity ie the chance of a full time reasonably paid job and stop treating them as consumers then there is no hope.

But when the total direction of these riots is merely disorder and looting it has to be stamped out. BTW Skylarker these types of events do happen in Europe from Gadansk to Lisbon but they are dealt with quickly and violently by para- military riot police.

Yeah i know they do happen elsewhere but usually for similar problems, countries free of these problems generally don't have riots. Anyone watching Ken Livingstone on BBC news? I actually agree 100% with him <yikes>

BlackBerry Messenger is being used to communicate apparently

    Dave,

In Tocky(mainly Lodge Lane)many businesses suffered or ceased due to the fires so even though as you said there was no looting it did'nt matter in the end because the whole area and its people suffered while the police and politicians went home to their ivory towers,i agree there were "justifiable" reasons for the people of Toxteth reacting as they did back then, but instead of successive governments learning from the 80's the frailties tha bind the fabric of society in this country remains the same.

Its just a reacurring vicious circle that will continue happenning until theres a drastic and dramatic change to society in this country.

This is the first time since then that the children of our generation face an uncertain future, no jobs, benefit cuts etc etc. They have no status and therefore feel the need to rebel. This plus many other factors need to be seriously looked at.

It is far more deep rooted, but evidently there is big problems at a governmental level.

To put a more a positive note on this post, I don't feel the need to rebel!

On a serious note, I do agree with this post. I feel i've got a difficult next couple of years.

I totally agree with you. When the best that a school/college leaver can hope for is a 1year 20 hour contract at Homebase then what do you expect?

Yeah but Chris if you were from inner London where gang culture was rife you can see how people regularly rebel. I personally wouldn't feel the need to rebel, but i can clearly see how certain groups would <ok>

To be honest i think at some point this was a certainty to happen.
