Listening to Talk Sport this morning, it was something of a surprise to hear that West Ham now have 7 strikers on their books with the arrival of Robbie Keane. The Moose said they had 9 but I think he included youth players as well.

Surely they cant sustain this and Keane doesn't come cheaply so Gold and Sullivan must be looking for a return and Steve Bruce has been a long term admirer of the lad. We have been linked for the last 18 months and at 27 is a perfect age. He certainly fits that target man role and would add much needed strength and power up front to assist Gyan.

I know he is another London lad but will know Anton very well, which will help him settle in and he could be a very good signing IMO. I have always been very impressed with him when he has played us in the last 3 or 4 years.

Would a bid of say £7m or £8m tempt the Irons to part with him? He wouldn't be a stop gap but a solid long term member of the squad and although not a prolific scorer, I think we are now looking to spread the scoring burden amongst the whole team not just one or two individuals. Sessegnon, Richardson, Welbeck and Gyan would love playing off a big fella =like this and would complete our portfolio.

I'd still say the Welbeck deal isn't dead (SAF recent announcement was merely his way of stating he wouldn't be sold cheaply) but that can wait until the Summer.

Rather have Obinna but hes already on loan from Inter.

I think Obinna could easily be Bent's replacement and link up with Gyan perfectly. He probably isnt the big name singing what Sunderland fans want but hes very underated I think.

I hope we dont get too big headed about Bent's replacement though, some people are banging names like Forlan, The Hulk, Benzima around but we need to be realistic.

Very good player and would love for us to get him.

English players are wildly over priced these days and they'd demand a higher fee than 7/8 million. Probably pricing us out of a move. West Ham do have a problem on their hands to keep them all happy so there could be hope.

I think Carlton Cole fits our profile perfectly at the minute and would offer something we havent got at present.

Forlan, Benzima etc are not coming to SAFC and this lad The Hulk I have no idea about at all.

Lets keep it real and affordable. £7m or £8m for Cole would be good business in this silly season market and he needs a new club to get him going again and maybe back into that England squad he was once touted for.

Agree that he is injuty prone and in my opinion does not always give 100%. I'd say look elsewhere.

I posted this earlier this afternoon, in the less than 34 hours left thread

I think the clue was there in Sir Niall's tv interview, when questioned about Keane. He said that Keane was not the sort of player that the club were looking for, which says to me that they are probably looking for a big guy who can play with his back to goal and hold the ball up, much like Sir Niall did really! If this is the case, DJ Campbell is not the man being targeted.

My shout would be a player who is not fancied by his manager, doesn't regularly start for his club because of the manager issue, is an England International and is a big guy, who can hold the ball up and score goals. His club has brought in one forward and they are about to bring in Robbie Keane. Have you guessed yet?................................West Ham's Carlton Cole

I think I'd go along with Pont on this. Plus, I've always found Cole to be a bit of a cart horse.

I really like him and think he would be a very good signing for us. Not sure West Ham would let him go though but if they did I would like to think we could be in for him.

Its all about opinions kidda no need to be sorry.

If it was down to all of us there would be 20 or 30 different targets and the only one that counts is the Gaffers.

He knows what he wants and lets hope he gets it tomorrow or of not, then for sure in the Summer.

Sadley, I think wages put the blockers on that one. He would have been an excellent signing, but probably picks up double what our highest earner takes home.
