I was genuinely excited at the prospect of signing Marshall, remembering his goalkeeping exploits for Cardiff. Unfortunately, we seem to have signed a poor imitation.
No, it's fair to say you don't give the striker the opportunity to score such a soft penalty by diving early and giving Benteke the easiest goal scoring opportunity imagineable.
Well we put 4 past him at Cardiff in a PL fixture. So he must have been ****e then, according to your argument.
I do feel like Marshall has been very harshly done to on these forums. I don't think it's Marshall's fault Phelan chose him over Jakupovic. I originally backed Phelan as I thought Marshall was better keeper but now its Jakupovic's turn as I think he deserves it. Jakupovic should never have been dropped, but why hound Marshall? If this was any other player in this squad playing as Marshall has been no-one would be mentioning a thing. No-one has even blamed the person who gave the penalty away! Jakupovic deserves his chance, but the criticism of Marshall has been far too harsh. He is a good keeper, but there is another good keeper at the club who deserves a chance. Doesn't mean we need to lambast one of our own players and criticise every tiny mistake he makes.
Let me remind you of Marshall's stats to date courtesy of Squawka. Marshall Performance Score -201 Appearances 10 Total Clean Sheets 0 Average Goals a Game Conceded 2.5 Average Saves Per Game 2.6 Average Saves Per Goal 1.08 Jakupovic Performance Score 27 Appearances 5 Total Clean Sheets 1 Average Goals a Game Conceded 1.4 Average Saves Per Game 3.6 Average Saves Per Goal 2.57 More cold hard facts clearly illustrating which is the better keeper. It's not even a contest. I only want what is best for Hull City. By continually picking a keeper who on average is conceding 2.5 times a game, we're having to score 3 to stand a chance of getting any points. That's the bottom line. Best players played in the best position for them. Marshall isn't currently our best keeper and only an idiot would argue otherwise.
As stated I want to see Jakupovic get a chance. Your continued abuse of one of own players is unnecessary. I also believe Jakupovic's five games is not a big enough sample size to make a definitive judgement.
When he's not good enough, then I'll have an opinion. Whether that is down to the manager picking him or the player putting in poor performances. Players aren't beyond criticism, they are paid well enough. The same as in the day job, if you weren't good enough, then there's procedures. Or should we not have those in place in case it hurts people? If you don't like it, don't read it. It is factually correct.
You were exactly like this about McGregor last season, did a goalkeeper run off with your missus or something?
It does go against the grain to attack one of our own, I don't like it either, but that's football. And anyway, whilst attacking Marshall we're supporting Jakupovic so...
As I've already said, should we be complaining that Jak didn't save the Atsu penalty? The answer is no if you were wondering.
I fully understand, but I don't think we should pick on every single mistake a player makes. If we did that we wouldn't have a team as every single player makes mistakes every single game. There are positive ways to support a player, and it doesn't mean constantly abusing one of our players.
This is a tad strange. For my part I have only ever said exactly what you have said; on current form Jak is the better keeper and did not deserve to be dropped and still does not deserve to be the No.2. It is only when others decide to criticise my opinion (others, like you, have now changed their opinion on this) that it is necessary to rationalise it and explain why I think Marshall has dipped in form. I offer detail and example, as stats are there if required, compiled by experts. I speak only for myself and don't ridicule the opinion of others - although I do tire of posters lumping everyone together. At least we agree on what the discussion point is about, at the moment. Marshall is not being lambasted, he is being discussed in reasonable terms.
Nowt harshly critical, just observations being discussed; nobody calling him a ****, as happens with other posters.
