And that's garbage too - Campbell was between Curtis and daws - they both left him - obviously Curtis was in front to cut the ball out if necessary - it was a great ball from Zaha that found Campbell - daws was behind marking no-one and wasn't quick enough to win the header - Marshall just watched the ball go in -
I just posted on another thread comments on Talk Sport, Redknapp etc saying 'a central defender is as good as the keeper behind them' funny we weren't opening the flood gates until Marshall took over from Jak.
We played on the front foot on Saturday. That's easy to do at home though, especially against a team that's also struggled recently and like to play on the counter. How we play away in our next 2 games will give us a good idea whether we go down with a whimper, a fight or give us a slim chance of miraculously staying up.
Excellent post, Snodgrass goes down a lot but the reason he never picks up a lot of free kicks is the way he goes down, I'm not condoning it. Zaha ran through us several times unopposed not because there scared of been beaten but because the slightest contact he falls over, especially in the box. It frustrates me how the good players just buy free kicks so easily the slightest knee or leg contact there over. The the pundits say it's the pace of the game and they have a right to go over. That's rubbish, if so we might as well as have a non contact sport.
Match of the day were blaming Dawson for the poor marking! I thought Dawson was right to back onto Benteke as you would assume the ball would gravitate to him. Maybe Dawson was guilty of poor communication but Davies was definitely caught napping.
Davies actually jumped too early, you see him landing as the ball sails over his head. On the other and Mr Potato in goal, could have at least made himself look like a goalkeeper by attempting a dive.
Too bad Marshalls poor keeping cost us the win. Jak could very possibly have saved Benteke's penalty kick and Campbells header. On the positive side Hudd was outstanding throughout and provided a succession of incisive through balls. Best player on the field by far. Robertson in his best position at WB showed what an attacking threat he is. Dio looked good with decent service for once and Snodders was perpetual motion. Lets hope Jak is back as GK at Spurs and Phelan keeps the 3-5-2 with Mason on the bench. We have the players to stay up if used properly.
Are we really criticising a keeper for not saving a penalty? If he'd dived the right way and got a hand to it, I'd understand, but he put it in the other ****ing corner!
Because Marshall dived about 20 minutes before Benteke hit the ball. Leaving Benteke just to stroke the ball in the opposite corner. Schoolboy goalkeeping error.
Oh come on now GLP, you can't blame him for diving early, he's that ****ing slow he has to get a head start.
Goalkeeping error or outsmarted by the striker? As many have said, he's slower than Jak so was taking a gamble. We're really getting desperate if we're blaming keepers for not saving penalties. Was Jak at fault for not saving Atsus?
I'm not defending him for every goal we've conceded or saying he should be playing instead of Jak, I think we need a change. But blaming a keeper for not saving a penalty is ridiculous.
You might as well say if Davies had done his job they wouldn't have got the third and blame it all on him
It's reasonable to expect a keeper to actually move/make an attempt at saving. Marshall's reactions are sloth like.
