Hamman, Enrique, Gini, Beardsley.... Got decent record buying from you guys to be fair Gotta take one dud every now and then
The problem is that to compete in the Premier League you have to spend fortunes on players and their inflated contracts and those contracts are still in place when clubs get relegated. The proper solution would be for the difference in TV money between the two leagues to be smaller but the Premier League would never agree to give more of their money away so this solution is the only realistic one.
Did Daglish not spunk away 85m with 35 of that going on Carroll but tried to justify it with -15m spent so do the Toon still owe L'pool 15m?Please explain.
Relegation clauses. Work out difference in revenue and put clauses in place that say if we're relegated your wages will drop by said % You saying to compete in Prem have to spend fortunes... but same applied to teams in Champ. To compete in Champ with teams that are still earning Prem money, you have to spend fortunes and that's how those teams end up making losses.
Not sure where you're going with this? Depends if you think £23m on Suarez is "spunking it away" per say and no idea what you're point about owing Liverpool £15m is about.. but sure, we'll take it
In denial,King Kenny trying to get clever with only -15m spent ie wouldn't admit spending 35m on Carroll but tried to cover it up on an overall spend with pluses and minuses as in he didn't actually pay 35m for Carroll!
Good luck getting good players to agree to that. Back in the real world the current system works fine. Some clubs are bigger than others and it's just tough ****, just like it's tough **** that even rich clubs like Newcastle and Everton have basically no chance of winning the Premier League because of owners of certain other clubs pumping in hundreds of millions to stack the deck in their favour. Anyway, parachute payments can't have been as big of an advantage as you might think considering the number of past relegated clubs still loitering in the second division.
True that but there`s something about it that just doesn`t seem right to me. If a club is relegated because they`re not good enough to be in the prem I can`t see why they should be given financial help to get back there. Seems wrong to me somehow. As far as your lot are concerned, others moaning on about your transfer dealings is plain daft imo. Buying and selling players to improve the squad. Isn`t that what they`re all supposed to be doing? Ashley may very well be a complete arsehole but that`s something he`s bloody good at. If other clubs try and fail that`s their problem.
You have a bit of a point there pops. The parachute system I think is there to stop teams going bust when then invariably carry high wage earners due to contracts down to the lower divisions. In the real world though it does give an unfair advantage and presents itself as somewhat of a 'close shop' arrangement so to speak. Maybe one way around it would be to create a mandatory system where players contracts are halved in value if they drop from the PL. I'm sure there will be a legal impediment to that but if contracts are dropped it may negate the need for such chunky parachute payments in the first place. I'd personally like to see more money distributed throughout the lower leagues than at PL level as this will raise the standard of the whole sport. I'm dreaming I know but lower league (and non league football) can actually be quite fun.
It's not just about players contracts though, a relegation for most clubs will mean a drop in match day revenue as fans don't turn up and the loss of major commercial revenue as sponsors will tie their support to Premier League status, parachute payments are not just about players but about the general financial health of a club when they fall out of the massive revenue stream that is provided by the PL, as for the lower leagues I think that they would be better served by getting rid of the 4th tier and making the 3rd tier open to feeder clubs supported by the PL teams to develop players.
Comes down to good management. Shouldn't be running the club on basis that you will always be a Prem club and get X amount of money each year from them, especially if you're one of the clubs that does fight relegation each year. Should have a plan that if worse case you did get relegated that you have something in place to counter the loss in money you'll receive. It's hardly like teams won't be able to forecast what their Revenue will be like if they go down.
Having to play with players like Steven Taylor and Shelvey is enough to make anyone give up the will to play to be fair
I'd rather have Shelvey to be truthful you'll see he's a gutless turd mate I agree about Taylor though seriously **** like most Newcastle players over the past 15 years
The only one out of that lot that I would have bought straight back off you is Pedro. We seem to have a knack of making players look better than they are, rinsing opposing teams for ridiculous sums of cash and then said players showing their true form and end up warming the bench or just showing themselves up to be the no-marks they really are.
