We were stretching too much and lost too many battles all over the pitch." #HUDvBRC Bristol City FC @bcfctweets 39m39 minutes ago LJ: "Frankie apologised to everyone. He's a great lad and it was a sequence of events that led up to that moment." #HUDvBRC Bristol City FC @bcfctweets 38m38 minutes ago LJ: "The winning goal comes from a couple of mistakes. BBC Match Report Nahki Wells pounced on an error by Bristol City goalkeeper Frank Fielding to help Huddersfield Town end their five-game winless run. Fielding's failure to control a backpass - minutes after he escaped a red card despite handing outside the area - allowed Wells a tap-in finish. Elias Kachunga nodded the hosts ahead early on from a Tommy Smith cross. Tammy Abraham punished Town's inability to clear a set-piece with the leveller, only for Wells to snatch the winner. Huddersfield's first victory since a 1-0 triumph over Derby County on 22 October moved the West Yorkshire club up to fourth in table, while defeat saw the Robins slip to 13th. David Wagner's Terriers, who could have been leapfrogged by the Robins if defeated at the John Smith's Stadium, looked positive throughout, with Fielding making two fine saves either side of the break - first to deny a deflected shot from Rajiv van La Parra in the first half and then later from Aaron Mooy when City were 2-1 down. The opening goal came after some fine link-up work between Kachunga and Smith, ending with the striker heading home from close range. Abraham's 13th goal in all competitions this season drew heavy criticism from the home fans as Aaron Wilbraham appeared to be offside as he rolled the ball past goalkeeper Danny Ward and into the path of the on-loan Chelsea striker to finish. Wells, who was through one-on-one with Fielding when the goalkeeper handled the ball outside the area, was again onto the keeper quickly to score the decisive goal soon after.
Can't fault these comments really. No excuses - just says it like it is. Fielding seems to be a very emotional guy - he lets things get to him and I am concerned that he will be a bag of nerves in the next game. (Cue Redprintt to substitute 'nerves' with another word....!) We can only deploy who is available and Fielding for all his faults is the best we have. He does chip in with the odd penalty save now and again....!
I can't fault what LJ is saying either as it's all true. But from the stats I saw we were completely outplayed for long periods of the game against opposition that have really struggled recently too. Our recent form and performances are seeing us slide slowly down the league and are now becoming a major concern. We must take maximum points from the next 2 home games and we ought to be looking at getting something against Ipswich or Wolves (or both) away, although our record at Molyneux over the years is frankly shocking as we all know and it's never been a happy hunting ground.
However badly we play away, we're not the worst at home. Brentford and Preston, with their suspensions, look ripe to be beaten. Hope so as the next 2 away look tough.
Every game in this league has its challenges. We need to 'man up' as a group and grind out the results if we need to. There is no reason why we shouldn't get a minimum of 7 points from these next 4 games.
We need to learn to pass the ball to a team mate. That seems to be lacking from what I've seen. Too many times we gift the ball back to the opposition......
If my memory serves me correctly didn't we have a game at Molineux a few years ago that we had in the bag and gave it up in the last minutes? I seem to think it was towards the end of the season against a side that were struggling at the time? Same old stuff EH.
