Nah, we just have a weird love affair with Sporting. We basically scout every game of theirs. It's like our scout doesn't want to come home.

 

I don't blame us! One of the best academies in the world should be scouted. We have the financial power to buy young players from them too so it is realistic to think we could take the next top academy graduate. They've produced so many good players over the years.

 

The scout there must be loving it. It would be good if we actually bought one of their players though, instead of just watching.

Sadly I think you're right. IMO that's the only explanation of why Jose didn't feature for even 1min out of 6 EL games, which really makes no sense at all. And before someone say's, Ah but he was on the bench, blah, blah, blah; I reckon there's a type agreement whereby we'll get an "extra" £1M (pick your number) on top of a pre agreed valuation if he's EL free. Obviously he was on bench & if either of our CB pairings were injured in any of the EL games, Jose would have played thus negating that "on the top" valuation. Something that probably Jose, CP, Les & MUFC could all accept.

With that said though, I still can't fathom why CP didn't put Jose on against HB Sheva & shifted VVD up front. I'm sure he would have terrorised their defence allowing us to pick up a couple of goals & be in the draw today.

 

One player. Still find it weird we never bid for Dier, we looked at him way before Spurs did.

 

With only 3 fit first choice CB's, do you really think we would sell our Captain? Next Summer is very likely, but apart from Cork (who was in his last few months of his contract) we don't sell in January.

 

Stephens is 4th choice atm.

 

And at the risk of turning the knife, he had a comically low release clause too, didn't he? There's something to be said for buying in Portugal, dodgy third-party quasi-ownership notwithstanding.
