The free kick came about because we had nothing in midfield. We were 1-0 up. We will win nothing if we don't control games from winning positions. Seems like our throttle is stuck permanently open atm. Zero game management when winning is driving me nuts!
The midfield is good when the attack press like demons and the opposition don't put them under pressure. But whenever a team attacks us, we really struggle. Massive concern.
just some thoughts on yesterday. We had passages of lovely interpassing which egularly came to nowt due to poor shot/last ball. As i said on the Bournemouth thread i'm worried that already the team is starting to struggle to maintain the intensity which is a prime part of our gameplan and this can only get worse as the games pile up over christmas. There is a worrying lack of squad depth which is exacerbating the fatigue factor. Would like to see Origi tried on the left (didn't he play that position in France) with Firminho back at CF. Nothing to add to what i have previously posted re Karius. Disclaimer - not been well recently so was under the influence of 3 different drugs , including opiates, so my view of the game may not actually correspond to reality. mind you could say that about a fair percentage of all posts on this forum
Firmino played out wide, again not his best game.. Firmino played as False 9, more often than not plays a blinder! Think the lad also benefits greatly with Coutinho in the side, more so than others, they have that understanding. Think against Boro, we swap Origi and Firmino around. Again, like Bournemouth, our complacency is costing us points, we dropped off after scoring the first goal, same way we did when 3-1 up last week. We were better in the second half but that final ball was lacking and the old issue of unpacking a tight defence, even one as leaky as West Hams as been of late was an issue. 5 goals in two games, "title" contenders that score that many win those games so to get 1 out of 6 pts is poor, Klopp knows it, Players know it, we know it, now its time to fix it! Still, glass half full, I see more positives than negatives, this could be our "blip" and we're still top 3 and only a few points off top. Given the "depth" or lack of on the bench yesterday, pretty sure Klopp will try to do some business in Jan! Oh, Karius, less Social media talk more shot stopping, not writing the lad off, he's had less than 10 games in the PL.. for the long term gain we're may have to suffer a bit more short term pain!
I doubt we'd use him, tbh. Klopp tries to make the player fit the style, not the other way around, so I don't think that Benny would get much of a look in.
Why are so many professional footballers so bad at taking corners? It really baffles me. There was one at the end of the Arsenal - Stoke game at the weekend where Little Joe steps up and just puts in one of the worst corners you'll see. An occasional mishit (stupid-looking word) is understandable, but so many players seem to have no real idea how to put a decent one in.
its maddening. every one was near post and cleared by first man. henderson gave up and milner took over and it was as bad. It seems nobody practices corners nor of course tackling according to guardiola either
