    Actually maths isn't your strong point either since average can mean any number of things. The arithmetic mean is about 3rd but the appropriate measure in this instance is the mode, which over the life of the PL is indeed 4th.

    Mode is not the same as average.

    take 7 numbers:

    2 3 4 4 1 4 3

    the mode is 4 as it occurs 3 times

    the average is 3 (21 divided by 7)

    So to work out Arsenal's average end of season position in the PL for last 5 years you need to add all the numbers and divide by 5.
    Which Piskie has already stated in his post - the average is 3.

    There seems to be lot of disagreement with you on this and lot more credible people who have worked this out have come up with a different answer to you actually.

    Liverpool seems to be the top team with average position over 50 years 3.46

    Arsenal joint second with Man U average position 5th.

    Maybe maths isn't your strong point either.

    Actually the average is 2.7. I was being conservative by rounding it down to 3rd. The mode isn't the appropriate measure, the average is as it gives a spread over the 5 seasons. Our average position is 3rd.
