    d) Have Fonte's body fished out of the water at Weston Shore, so people will know what happens to captains who betray the club.
    e) Make Virgil an offer he can't refuse.

My problem with this is that when Charlie has done his shoulder in before (3 times I believe ) he is normally out for 4 weeks........12 weeks sounds a little long unless he has broken something.

Would love to see Spurs fans faces this morning when they read this rumour.....

Atletico Madrid could move for Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino if Diego Simeone leaves at the end of the season. (Sunday Mirror)

So which strikers are currently no.1 in the black box? I can't think of anything getting into the realistic area. A loan feels so much more likely to me, like what we did with Djuricic/Elia that year. They were ok, had 2 arms, 2 legs and were vaguely fit, which is pretty much what we could use.

Yeah I think a loan is the most likely thing.

Why not JWP for club captain? He'd get my vote.

To add a bit. We signed Austin last Jan but he was evidently part of our long term plan, and it was the right time to move. In fact if I am Wikipedia-ing right, he is our only significant January signing since 2012 (sorry Forren). If the next Austin was out there I think we would know his name by now.

Allegro? Poor starter, difficult to control and is short on pace. Sorry couldn't pass up an open goal. Especially sorry to those too young to know what I'm on about.

Your captain really needs to be starting most games though, particularly in the league.

I see where you're coming from, and I would expect JWP to be a future captain. But until he is one of the first names on the teamsheet, I don't think we can go down that route (if he was a regular, then he'd already be my number two pick behind Virgil. Not that Fonte has left yet of course!)

I think, almost perversely, the worse our results are this month, the more likely it is that we will sign a decent striker in January (which almost certainly means a permanent transfer). Lack of goals in the team and Austin's injury are issues enough. If the prospect of relegation is thrown in too - however remote - then that, you presume, really would direct the board into significant action. Even the people who think Les and the board put money before football, surely can't argue with that.

But otherwise, yes. As with you and LTL, I would firmly be expecting just a rotational squad type loanee. As you say, we do not do business in January.

Trying too hard Sky, if you really wanted some bites you should have come here around 10 on Thursday night.

Amatuer tbh and you're better than that mate ;)

So if Van Dijk has this £40m release clause then you would imagine that City would activate it in January? I have always been of the opinion that VVD wouldn't leave until the summer but can see City splashing cash out in Jan to try and sort out their defensive issues.

Captain-wise, if we're ruling out VVD and Fonte, my votes would go for

    1) Bertrand. Has a real appreciation for life at Saints and how it's not always better at the big club

    2) Romeu.

    3) Davis

Similarly to Bertrand, I hint he's done being in reserves or being loaned around, he will value being in a settled position and playing regularly for a good premier league team.

Probably the first time he's felt really valued by a set of fans too

Let's hope so, both to wanting to feel in a settled position and also playing in a really good team...

On the other hand, do you think he may want to test himself at a slightly bigger club?

Ryan always talks passionately about his time here, I really don't feel anxious about him at all. Oriol seems very happy, just wonder why we haven't seen the pen of destiny as yet?
