He isnt a long way down the pecking order at all. Im not saying he wont leave at some point as he isnt seen as their No 1 option anymore, but not half way through a season and not to us.

Wenger and Puel dont have much say in it, they player is more likely to decide where he lies, should the club allow him to leave prior to the end of his contract.

 

Let's be realistic: our non-spending has nothing to do with managers being delighted with the options available, and never has. It's a board-level decision.

I'm guessing that we'll get a striker, but either on loan or a very cheap deal.

The media might be fond of linking Sturridge around, and no doubt many clubs are indeed sniffing, but with Liverpool losing Mane to the African Nations Cup for a month, I think they'd be mad to let go of him.

So leaving him to one side, I don't see any obvious candidates in the PL. Which no doubt means looking abroad.

Yep, he rarely starts the PL, but does come on as sub. Didnt he score within seconds of coming on against Man U?

 

I'd imagine that either Giroud or, more likely, Welbeck would be available come the summer. But not in January (not less because Welbeck is, I presume, still injured).

 

Yeah, there's only one possible loan striker I can think of who is very available: Oumar Niasse, the guy Everton signed for far too much and then almost immediately dropped to their Under-23s. Beyond him, there aren't any names that jump out save for the Girouds/Sturridges that just aren't going to happen.

 

Hopefully there is a bargain on the continent somewhere

 

And Giroud/ Welbeck still wouldn't be coming here, their wages are too high. I imagine we will get some one from the French league, on loan with a option to buy.

Absolutely. In fact, that was precisely my point: agreeing with Brendy's point that we're unlikely to source a striker from the PL, because the only realistically available loan striker I can see is Niasse, who is awful.

 

We should have got a striker in the summer to replace pelle.
