Match Day Thread Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United

  1. Dele should have been subbed after 55-60 minutes. Something of a liability now

Lol. Rose just showed you what a dive is. Should been sent off for that tackle alone.

Today is why Spurs will not be PL champions.
All the motivation was there to win. Instead Man Utd given a confidence boost.

It's a mentality problem. I cannot fathom how so many excellent players can perform so inconsistently. Whenever the pressure is up and there is an opportunity to see our name in lights, we bottle it. Third in a two horse race, St Totteringham, we deserve every insult and more. We simply cannot cope with the big occasions. And until Poch eats a nice big piece of humble pie and acknowledges the value of a Carrick and a Zlatan in calming the nerves and leading by age-old example, we won't win anything.

    In fairness to me
    1) it is my job on the match day threads to slagging everyone off in the hope they shut me up by scoring
    And
    2) Sissoko is crap <laugh>

Agree with all but one thing...THEY deserve the insults not us. We turn out week in week out and are always there giving it our best.

At least Jones made contact with Rose. Rose did not touch your goalscorer's leg at all. The foul was on his upper body just before your guy threw himself to the floor.

I go to work and every day I do my best.
If Wanyama, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Dembele and Kane were to be asked if they gave it their best today they could not say yes and imho that is unacceptable.
That's 6 players ... all in the 1st year of new contracts ... not doing their best in the same match.
Kane and Wanyama have been better this season but Eriksen, Dele, Son and Dembele have done this several times (Eriksen in most games and Dele and Son in at least half) yet apart from Son they play week in week out.
I would like Eriksen and Dele to be dropped...maybe then they'd at least put a proper shift in.

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, speaking to Sky Sports: "We wanted more. It was a big disappointment in terms of result.

"We were less dangerous than the last few games, especially going forward we missed a bit. It depends on small details and in the Premier League because everything is so tight. We tried to get back into it after we went behind but couldn't get the momentum."

You looked surprisingly vulnerable to the counterattack today. Your full backs were often caught high up the pitch when possession was conceded.

Going forward, there isn't enough zip in your play. Having a lot of possession can be a curse when opponents sit in, are happy to concede the ball 40 yards from goal and the play becomes slow and predictable.

You have many good players - and a solid defence means that 1or 2 goals is often enough for the win - but in games like today, when the opposition players are experienced and work out how to adapt, you need to more adaptable too. More pace up front. Kane plays up front alone and isn't quick; he could do with one or two players with pace running beyond him.

And thought this game was a banker for a draw. Utd spurned loads of opportunities as usual, but, for once, didn't gift you an equaliser.

That's one big part of it, I think. The other, if you're interested in trends and correlations, is that we pretty consistently have looked very good playing once a week, and very ordinary when playing twice. The main problem is that we stop scoring. You'd expect this to be true to some degree of a team with a high energy style. It's one thing to make yourself move, another to actually feel like running.

However, in this case, I agree it's simply a case of bottling it, as Man U should have been more tired than we were. What's interesting to me is that almost everyone seems to hope we can nick fourth, or third at the best. In fact our starting 11 is the best in the league. Everyone else has a weakness. So a culture of low expectations may play a part in the poor performances under pressure. I hate to suggest Arsenal have done something right, but hiring a sports psychologist to try to help with their perpetual bottlers is at least taking a sensible step to address the problem. Of course, anyone who would go to see a psychologist needs to have his head examined, and I've never heard of one successfully helping a team (as opposed to a number of success stories I've heard concerning individuals) but at this point trying to face the issue head on in any way might be a good idea.

Perhaps after such performances, the offending players should face a 9am monday class
session with your kids laden with buckets containing the famous pee-socks ...

  19. Kane has hardly had a chance this term due to injury. Dele hasn't that excuse.
