I no this might come across stupid but where does are money actually come from. I no its markus' family who have the money. Does cortese just ask the lieberrh's for money or have they given him a load to run the club. Or does he ask for a certain amount every year. I no this sounds stupid but i dont really understand how we get the money for transfers.
its owned by whoever inherited markus's estate when he died, most of us presume this is his daughter katarina. as for the money, who knows if cortese has to ask for it when he needs it or if it's just sat somewhere and he dips into it whenever he likes.
I *think* it's Markus' holding company that owns the club, and him and NC worked out a long term business plan and he left an investment that covered that business plan. I don't have any source for this, this is just what I remember hearing?
If you remember, Markus said that this club would NEVER ever need banks again. There's a fund of money. It used to be called Markus and now it's called Markus's Estate. It provides the money which Nicola thinks is necessary to run the Club. The End. Isn't life wonderful..? BTW, in the context of your question, it's know.
When our last figures were released, there was a deficit some of which related to an interest-free loan in a fund set up by Markus at time of purchase. This was a kind of starter loan-essential as Saints were broke. Money resulting from sale of players would go into our coffers, but we have other calls on it such as paying for the new training ground. Presumably, NC could ask Katerina Leihberr for some more money but he would have to make a business case. Not necessary now we have sold Oxo.
Interesting point (though against FA rules) Arsenal could have bought Southampton for what they've paid.
Fran has pretty well got it right..........A investment fund was set up for the use of the club. A kind of float if you like. An amount of money that will fluctate with the needs of the club. What ever is taken out is technically a directors interest free loan. So money will be going in and out as fortunes ebb and flow one would have thought. We do not know how much is in the pot only that it exists.
The fund principal, a pot that can be dipped into and repaid, would fit with cortese's comments about putting money aside in good times and nit over borrowing to try to buy success.
Recently there was a documented on Channal 4/5 . It's was called dispatches - how to buy a football club . It mentioned on it that saints was owned buy a company called something like DNSL SL 613 ltd , this is owned by markus liehberr
