If I remember correctly they got promoted off the back of soft penalties, I'm sure they had 15+ that year.
My point being if they wanted to show the ref had a crap game then why not show the atrocious decisions against Elmo and Dio .. or some of the other mystifying decisions he made .. it is all too easy to lump it all on lil ol 'Ull
Guy Mowbray has tweeted for people to not blame the referee or Snodgrass. It always happens and people will always take advantage because they're human. He's absolutely spot on. People making a witch hunt out of nothing. (Mowbray commentated on the game for MOTD and is from these parts).
Not at all, just saying if you meant something then you should've said that, instead of something completely different.
There seems to be more acceptance of diving when it's better performed. If he had dragged his feet into contact with the tackle he might have got away with it. More practice required to be up there with the "world class" cheats.
Joking aside , but I think that actually is the difference , at least those cheats do work on it and almost make it a skill and part of the game , Snodgrass was just cringeworthy to watch , 6 inches of clear daylight between him and the defender , if you are going to do something at least try and do it well
“Being worried or not worried about getting a reputation doesn’t make a difference. I’ll just carry on doing what I’m doing. That's a quote from Zaha after getting booked for diving last year. He's clearly aware of what he's doing and like you say probably practices it to make sure he does it well. Snodgrass isn't that type of player and it showed with his terrible effort yesterday.
I find it far more annoying when a player dives and the ref signals play on, yet doesn't book him for diving, meaning the ref knew said player dived but disregarded the rules. If it wasn't a dive then it's a penalty.
Steve McClaren was one of the worst. Remember him rounding the keeper at BP once and, instead of tapping it into an empty net, throwing himself to the floor and appealing for a penalty.
Maybe diving is like chopping down an advancing forward on the halfway line and taking a booking. It's against the rules but it's not really cheating, but simply part of the game.
