Zeki Fryers will travel to Belgium on Thursday for talks over a transfer to Standard Liege.

The England Under 19 defender left Manchester United at the end of last season having appeared in six first-team games but he failed to agree a new contract at Old Trafford.

The 19-year-old has trained with Tottenham during pre-season but a move to another English club is complicated because any fee will be set by a tribunal if the clubs cannot agree, and United want £6million.

Tottenham remain interested but Liege would be able to sign him for minimal compensation.

  3. Is he worth £6m?

    Presumably not.

Perhaps Fryers prefers to play in Belgium?

Loving the bitter United comments. Playing regularly at young age for Standard, who produced Witsel and gave chances to Fellaini and Defour from a young age, is a choice worth considering no matter how much they think United is the be all and end all of football.

Last time I checked, a club can't set a tribunal fee - unless this is yet another example of one rule for United, another rule for everyone else.

Can't we just agree to pay Liege a couple of million for him and skip the tribunal? <whistle>

It's just as well a club can't set a tribunal fee, otherwise Simon Jordan would have tried to get £20m out of us for Bostock !!!

If he wants to play for us, can't we just ask for a tribunal soon, and if the fee is set too high, just say no?

How about he gets off the Tube at Seven Sisters, Levy picks him up in his car and drives him to WHL to look around the stadium, then heads to Spurs Lodge to meet the rest of the squad, at which point we give Bacon Face a call to say we have their player and he will be joining us?

    It's long overdue, frankly...

It's no coincidence that Standard Liege are a club MUPLC watch intently - they signed Marnick Vermijl from them a couple of years ago, and a year or so before one of their players broke his foot and received a letter wishing him well from Bacon Face. As they weren't playing MUPLC in the match he broke his foot in, why was he alerted to this?

Something about this proposed move to Liege stinks to high heaven.

The fact that the report's in the Fail probably adds weight to your suggestion, Croydon.

The initial tribunal was cancelled for reasons I explained the other day. Apparantly, when the tribunal reconvened, they fell on the side of United and valued the player at 3 times what we were prepared to pay. Understandably, we pulled out and it seems he is now a Liege player.

I bet that is exactly what will happen in January. I wouldn't put it past Levy to have suggested that to him.

As an aside, the current rules are impractical. There should be a rule that allows a player under 22 to move to another club free of charge if:

1, The player makes less than 10 starts for the parent club in the previous 12 months.
2, The new club finish below the parent club in the league.
3, The player makes at least 10 appearances for his new club during his first season.

It would stop money bags clubs buying all the younger talent and not playing them. It would still protect the clubs from lower divisions when the money bags clubs go sniffing. Fees could still be set by tribunial for players moving up the ladder.

Were a player not to make 10 appearances for his new club, a tribunial could then set a fee.
