It had to be done in recognition of the other thread. Limit it only to players that you have seen, Here is mine; Lily Thuram Dan Seabourne Danny Butterfield Martin Crainie Graeme Murty Amdy Faye Souleymayne Diawara Lloyd Sam Milne (Ralph to his mates ) Pawel Abbot Andy Gray
Jim Stannard Dietmar Bruck Ray Tumbridge Peter Shaw Traore Hugh McAuley Amdy Faye Billy Landsdowne Ralph Milne Barry Endean Dick Plumb
GK - Coco the Clown (Thuram) RB - Butterfield CB - Traore CB - Cory Gibbs (not that anyone did see him) LB - Kelly Youga, (never liked him, I'm sorry I know others did but for me he wasalways a liability) CM - Omar Pouso CM - Amdy Faye ST - Chris Iwelumo (couldn't time a jump to save his life) ST - Marcus Bent ST - Hasselbaink ST - Reza Yes quite an attacking formation
GK - Ross Worner (a bit harsh, but I never saw Thuram play) LB - Dan Seabourne (because his performance at home to Ipswich is the worst I've ever seen from a Charlton player) CB - Gary Doherty CB - Miguel Llera (I will love him forever for that Swindon Boxing Day equaliser but he could be such a liability) RB - Simon Francis LM - Kyle Reid (started well but got worse and worse. His right foot was comically bad) CM - Alan McCormack CM - Emanuel Frimpong RM - Keith Gillespie (over the hill, the most pointless loan in history) CF - Izale MacLeod CF - Andy Gray
I think Francis gets a bad wrap, yeah he wasn't class but he was following on from Richardson who had had a cracking season, anyone following on would be bad, same as when Solly goes (when he retires aged 34 having played 1000 games for us) whoever follows will have a tough act. And Llera i will always rememeber for the Swindon goal AND when he took one for the team at the Playoff semi final against Swindon, taking down Charlie Austin in the 120th minute sacrificing his possible place at Wembley.
After the carthouse got turned on the halfway line. Simon Francis had it in his locker, but it was a difficult time for the club in general. I read in the summer that a Premiership side were chasig him, though my memory lets me down as to who.
We have certainly had a collection of very bad full backs in the last 6-7 seasons. I nominated the likes of Pardew's best mate from Reading, Graeme 'the crock' Murty, but what about other luminaries like Kelly Youga, Danny Butterfingers, and Greg "Shank it to Row Z" Halford
P.S: More mature followers like dick, mike, typical & AHLL might remember a player called Mike Small (a real oxymoron, if ever there was one....) from our exile season at Upton Park For those who never saw the guy, recall the Bond film Live and Let Die... & think of the way Roger Moore kills the main villain.
Strikers post Curbs, without a doubt. We spent £10m alone on the likes of Hasselbaink, Varney, Izzy McLeod, Andy Gray...then you get onto the real chaff....Hayes...Benson....Abbott...Match fixer Sodge....Carlton Cole.....Simon Church
Carlton Cole was a curbs signing, but yep agree with you fully. We really have gone through some tripe to get to a Vetokele - which makes it all the sweeter when you watch him.
DON'T YOU DARE PUT AKPO DOWN AS BAD! That Swindon game when he was on his own for 60 minutes up top as we had 9 men, I'll always remember him running and running and running, and then practically crawling off, man was a machine that day, and ever since then I have respected him over must other strikers... his brother though yeah, he's a match fixer and was over rated
If Akpo was done in, my bad, but I still respected him as a player, he didn't seem to do anything stupid and get sent off like Sam, Sam was defo fixing it when for us, think of the stupid mistakes or sending offs he got?
I remember him at Millwall resembling a statue. It was amongst the worst displays i have ever seen by a Charlton player. Miguel Llera's display at Colchester was up there too.
My worst nightmare looks something like this...: GK: Lily Turam RB: Jimmy Traore CB: Souleymane Diawara CB: Phill Chapple LB: Cedric Evina RM: Chris Bart-Williams CM: Brendan O'Connel CM: Neil Redfearn LM: Ricky Otto CF: Carl Leaburn CF: Kim Grant Subs: Mark Bright Jimmy Floyd Hasslewank Francis Jeffers Carlton Cole Pawel Abbott Amdy Faye Andy Gray
Agree with most of that list, but I'm not having Hayes on it. His finishing was weak but he was a very good link-up player for us until Yann arrived. Watch BWP's goal at home to Exeter for the best example of what he and Hayes together could do.
Franco and I are going to have a falling out over the merits of Super Carlo. The guy was vastly underrated and will always be a legend. I thought Mark Bright did a good job for us; his goal (deflected off Jamie Clapham) at Ipswich in the play-offs is one of my fondest memories.
