Welcome to Ipswich Grant! A permanent and for a fee! http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/29945/ward-move-permanent-deal
We've spent over £1 million in one window.. And on 2 (young) players. This feels odd. Doesn't feel like Ipswich of the past few seasons. Rumour is there is at least one more to be announced today/tomorrow which will likely be Lamah on a free or AMN on loan.. But still, this is the sort of signing we've been wanting for a while
Seems like a good signing, time will tell as don't know much about him. Still think fullbacks are problem but MM will stick with chambers and Knudsen. Saying that, more signings are expected so we will see...
I must confess I know very little about him, so done a little research. Apparently he was key in Rotherham's end of season performances. Seems highly rated by the Spuds people online too so it seems a great move. VERY cheap in this day and age of inflated transfers so credit where it's due. More needed but this seems a very good start.
Mostly serving as an echo from previous comments here, but I agree this is a great deal! Exactly the type of footballer we should be signing and for that price, I'm surprised he wasn't snapped up sooner. He was Rotherham's Young Player of the Year last season. Apparently a few other Championship clubs also offered him terms, but he picked us over them, which is always a good sign. The Klug connection from his time at Spurs likely helped us out even further.
And we're not really such a bad club to be joining, as some on twtd want you to believe. We finished 7th last season with an injury ravaged squad!
Time will tell sd but must admit, at the moment I can't see anything other than mid to lower mid table finish. Hopefully more signings to come!
I don't think we'll make top six to be honest. I was referring more to the many posters on 'tother site who are all about 'We're a laughing stock" or "We can't attract players" blah, blah, blah. In reality, we did pretty good last term if you look at where we ended up.
It was how we got there that was the issue for most. Though like you say, some would have you believe that we just scraped survival last season. I think we'll see some better football, but some more indifferent results.. which will be interesting given the "fanbase" has been calling for better football, even if it means finishing mid table.. so they may get what they want, only to then be annoyed that we aren't able to grind out the ugly wins we have done over the past couple of seasons
I for one will not complain if we finish 2,3 or even 4 places lower but play better football,my fear is at the least sign of trouble Mick will revert to type.
Sounds a promising signing but Im with Bigal. We've seen it before. any sign of entertainment quickly removed as a result of the odd poor result and we will soon to playing with 4 centre backs. If this guy is as good as reports have suggested it will be interesting to see how we using wingers and fit in the likes of McGoldrick and Bishop. Unfortunately ever winger we have got excited about signing under MM has quickly disappeared from the first team picture.
