I understand the whole "he's a merc" argument. But he was offered the chance to go to a bigger club and you can't expect anything else for most players to leave if offered a big contract at a big club. I think he'd be a great 2nd choice behind Gayle. Pacey, great finisher and decent in the air. 30 years old, yes, but a proven premier league consistent goal scorer if in the right team. He would suit the 4-2-3-1 style. Whenever he's gone a team that's given him good service his goal record is almost 1 in 2.
Still a good player though. We're deluded if we think all of our players are loyal heroes. Most are mercs.
Also they don't have to be a loyal hero - but anyone who chooses money over coming here shouldn't ever have been given another chance in the first place let alone a second chance!
No. The fact he cant get a game at Palace suggests he has lost it. He WAS a very good striker for us but too many years sitting on benches on great salaries and he no longer has the sharpness and hunger a good striker needs. He will never get it back either.
If he would genuinely improve the squad, then yes.............. if not then no (and I don't think that he would). If him coming was the difference between us going up or staying in this league then I suspect his 'merc' status would be quickly forgotten by most people.
I had assumed we were talking about if we were promoted. Could he move here now outside of the transfer window?
No. Have you watched him? He looks a shadow of his former self. Doesn't look to be looking after himself either injuries or not.
I do find it amusing that all those players we had around that time and just before when we were doing ok, who we would of considered our best and who thought they were destined for bigger things have left and mostly been miserable, bench warmers or total sick notes.
No idea. I just presumed Tash meant now. All pretty hyperthetical anyway............. he won't come and I don't think the club (Ashley / Penfold) would want him. But him being a mercinary means nowt to me. It's just a job to the vast majority of players. If I was offered truck loads of money to switch jobs then I most probably would. Fans forget that. NUFC means a great deal to us. It means absolutely **** all to 99.9999% of everybody else, footballers included!
Amusing for sure but I always think if Cabaye, Tiote, HBA, Remy, Cisse, Debuchy, Santon, Colo, Ba, Krul had been accumulated into one squad they'd have been a good team for a number of years. Nature of selfish players of course and money but still. If you'd got a talented number 10 and partner for colo it would have been a very good team. Cisse would have been good back up to Ba.
