Further reports in the media today that a "host" of Premier League clubs are vying to bid for Ademola Lookman in January. Silly numbers are being talked about - only silly because it is Meire negotiating on Charlton's [Duchatelet's..] behalf, and we all know what a great job she made of Joe Gomez. Thoughts on Lookman being sold: He has been fairly poor for us most of this season, how big a loss would he be? Would the £8m [] be re-invested in the team, or would it go to Duchatelet? Would his enforced sale be a resigning issue for Karl Robinson? My own view is that without Ricky Holmes coming back and/or significant attacking reinforcements, we are in big trouble if we do sell him.
He will be sold for an undisclosed fee to get up to the undisclosed fee he will not be allowed to be loaned back to us but instead will go on loan to a top 10 Championship team.
Robinson has said that if he is sold he will come back on a half-season loan. We'll see who has the last word on that! We'll also see how much of the fee is handed to the manager to be spent on the midfield, and how much is trousered by Roland.
But Meire said he won't be sold in January. The Liverpool Echo says that they are close to agreeing a deal but the main sticking point is the loan back to us for the Season.
I wouldn't want Lookman back on loan if he is sold in January. His motivation to play for us would be precisely zero.
Either way I think he will go on to be the best of the youth players that I've personally seen come through the Academy (going back to Scott Parker/Paul Konchesky onwards). I expected him to go in the summer so I'm glad to have at least seen him play another 10 or so times and see a few memorable strikes.
For his own good Lookman has to get away from the basket-case that our club has become to a stable club where he can get proper coaching. If he was your son would you advise him to stay.
I would advise him to stay yes ...the awful owner and CEO doesn't effect the players in my view he is getting regular football at a level that means he can develope his game ...much better than goin to Everton under 23!s or whatever and playing in next years check a trade cup . Pointless for me apart from the £'s may as well stay at Charlton till the summer at the very least. Plus from our point of view our play off chances are way better with him in the team so doesn't make sense to sell now .
Think with Bolasie out for the season it gives him a chance to understudy for Deulofeu. Still too raw for the prem IMO, but as an impact player it could work.
Yeah - his sale hurt palace. And with him out for the season at Everton it could provide game time should he move there.
It will damage us. The money will go into Roland's pocket. And if he comes back on loan, he won't be motivated. Seems like business as usual to me. We won't find another one like him in the near future either.
