The reigning Premier League champions have made a disastrous defence of their title and are looking to put that right with some investment in the January transfer window, with advanced talks underway with Belgium side Genk for the exciting central midfielder. Ndidi, 19, has provided a number of eye-catching performances in the Europa League this season and his ability to break up play has been something Leicester have missed in the wake of N’Golo Kante’s departure over the summer. With Nampalys Mendy still sidelined through injury, the need for reinforcement in the middle of the park is a necessity for Leicester, as they will also be juggling Champions League knockout football next year. please log in to view this image Leicester’s recruitment has come in for criticism this season but they are now on the verge of securing a deal for the highly-rated Genk teenager and the deal should be confirmed around the turn of the year. No player has completed more tackles and interceptions combined in the Europa League this season than Ndidi (56), who is also the third highest rated player in the competition (8.11).
Certainly need that bit of extra cover in front of the defence, also need to address our lack of creativity too, good midfielder/no.10 who can go past players and pick a pass too. Sounds a bit wishful I know, but we need another dimension in the final third.
Is it a concern that the player who appears to be a target (No1?) is splashed all over the papers 6 weeks out from the transfer window? Nothing appears secret these days in the world of scouting.
Seen far too many of these flop to get too worked up over it. This time last year we were getting excited about Dan Amartey and he's not set the world alight.
... I think he's OK ... he came into a team playing with confidence last season and did very well playing in numerous different roles ... Copenhagen were playing his as a centre back and they won the title ... his future may well be there ... far too early to be writing the guy off IMHO .... and the only experience we actually have of employing a player at the top of European tackling stats didn't work out too badly tbf
I really like Amartey, but if we're going to be buying a CM in January then he needs to come into the side and start performing sharpish. Amartey will be a top player but it's unfair to keep slinging him in at the deep end IMO.
No choice at the minute unless we play a midfield consisting of wingers!! Agree with you that in time Amartey will prove to be a good signing.
