Are we not even allowed to talk about it? Are we boycotting it as a thread also? Very sad state of affairs
Its a match DAY thread. I have had complaints about putting it up too early. Watch that Ben he's a bastard.
Working how? Has Oyston promised to chuck it if they take less than 5,000 there? Newcastle have not boycotted and Ashley is still there. Bpool have and are boycotting..... and Oyston is still there. So how effective is boycotting? Could it be that these rich owners dig in their heels even more when confronted by mass disapproval ?
Sorry mate, but it doesn't work as quickly as that. Boycotting will work as a tactic over a number of years. Basically, if fans stay away from clubs owned by the likes of oyson, the Allams etc, the message will eventually get through that Fans will not take s**t lightly. This will deter future idiots from buying clubs, in some cases, which is better for football. Not an ideal strategy, but if the Blackpool protests put off one or two potential crooks, then job very well done. I for one will never contribute to the riches of the Allams and I am very happy with that. If our fans took the Blackpool approach, maybe it wouldn't be worth it for the Allams to keep the club on, they may sell.
The public of Hull boycotted City for most of the 1990s and we ended up with Hinchliffe and Buchanan, not potential but actual crooks. Can't think of a club where boycotting has worked or directly led to the owners going. Unfortunately I don't know what will.
The low crowds and apethy of the 90s did contribute to ownership changes via administrations. Especially with Lloyd, when the bubble burst on his daft scheme, he didn't last long. It's different now because of tv money, but the principles are the same, if you don't buy the product, it will make less profit for those in charge and make the idea of ownership less appealing for whoever may be interested in buying. If potential buyers realise they can increase revenue by treating fans with the respect they deserve, it will be a no brainier, it doesn't cost money.
I don't think boycotting makes them change their mind, but I certainly think more people outside of the HCAFC community would understand the issues if we had a stronger boycott. Even though our crowd is thousands down on where it was at a lower level, people get the wrong end of the stick and think we're just a small club. The Allams and their minions like Windass can still pretend everything's OK. The press and neutrals are regularly confused about the situation. Look at the coverage of our Wembley crowds. I can understand people's reasons for not wanting to boycott, but I think things would be better if more people did.
Nail. Head. On. If we had a literally empty stadium Sky and national media would be all over it, adding far more pressure and publicity to the situation that we as fans ever could. That highlights the issue around the world and intrigue as to why its happening. Whenever I tell anyone about the no concessions they are literally gobsmacked. This happened just last week. Why don't they know about it? Cos everyone from the outside thinks everything is just fine and we're simply tinpot, conveniently ignoring the fact that we regularly got bigger crowds in the bottom 2 divisions that we do now.
They're not in the Premier League. Happy to point this out for you. How's the campaign of saying nasty things on the internet whilst paying thousands of pounds going on driving away the Allams?
