The PFA announces each Division's team of the year towards the end of April. Last season the team was as follows:
GK - David De Gea (Manchester United)
    RB - Hector Bellerin (Arsenal)
CB - Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham Hotspur)
CB - Wes Morgan (Leicester City)
LB - Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur)
Mid - Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)
Mid - N'Golo Kanté (Leicester City)
Mid - Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur)
Mid - Dimitri Payet (West Ham)
CF - Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)
CF - Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
This year there are a lot more debatable choices. I thought that we could compile our own team and see how close we get to the real thing. I am assuming a 4-4-2 formation.

I will put up one poll at a time and anyone is free to vote (non-Saints fans too). If you choose other please state their name and afterwards the player(s) with the most votes will be selected. Each vote will be open for 3 days.

    2016/17
GK - David De Gea (Manchester United)
RB - Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)
    LB - Ryan Bertrand (Southampton)
    CB -
    CB -

Virgil aside, Luiz has been the best CB this season in my opinion.

I went for Alderweireld and Luiz. van Dijk has been as good but has been out for a fair few games recently so I chose the other two but is a tough choice.

I sympathise with those advocating David Luiz but when it comes down to it, Virgil is simply streets ahead of anyone else, notwithstanding his injury, and Toby is pure class.

David Luiz is only one of the best CBs if played in a back 3. Not in a pairing!

Think I missed the votes for GK, Rb and LB - did Bertrand win easily or was it close?

Azpilicueta is one of the best all round footballers in the league. Him and Virgil for me. Verthongen has outshone Toby over the second half of the season.

I voted for VVD and Toby. Both great defenders but are excellent footballers who help move their teams out of defence into attacking
If we sadly loose VVD this summer can we please get Harry McGuire from Hull. Seen him a few times and he looks like the next CB in the mould of these two guys

Yeah, I'm surprised no one has voted for Vertonghen - though I didn't either <laugh> (VvD & Luis). Talk to any spurs fan and they will talk him up ahead of Alderwereild.

This will be one bias team: 2 saints players in the team of the year will not happen.

As good as Virgil has been, he's been out for too long in my opinion.

It's out of 3 for me. Keane, Luiz and Toby... and I've gone for Luiz and Toby.

Maybe because Vertonghen is such a knob. One player I really dislike and I think if I passed him in the street, I'd tread on his toe, accidentally on purpose. If I was a CF playing against him, I'd certainly leave one on him.

Went Alderweireld and Luiz as they have been the best in my view. Find it hard to justify picking players outside the top 3/4 teams in teams of the season, otherwise I may have gone for VVD

GK and RB was pretty definitive but left back was more divided. The conclusion was that there were few outstanding candidates only Alonso and Bertrand as Rose had been injured so much.

I didn't vote for Vigil because he was out half the season....otherwise he'd have been first on my list if his form had continued.

Why? Wouldn't Jermaine Defoe's 15 goals for the bottom club this season measure up against any striker in the league, for example?

Quite, not to mention Jordan Pickford and Tom Heaton being two of the best goalkeepers, despite playing for struggling clubs.

I haven't voted in these as I predominantly use the app which doesn't support polls (there you go @TheSecondStain ;) ), but was shocked that De Gea won the goalkeeper, has been as good this season as others imo.
