We may need a special thread for the World Championships in August as we wave goodbye to the "Greatest" and let's hope for lots of Kenyan victories as well as for our greatest Olympian ever, Mo Farah, on the running track. Then I am a happy bunny!!

Murray/Hingis are one set up. Must have a good chance....quite a pairing. I like doubles anyway, but mixed doubles has a nice social feel about it....like club tennis.

Murray lost, that hip injury got the better of him.

He's been carrying an injury during Wimbledon and was injured earlier in the season as well....bound to catch up with him. Shame.

General sports thread would probably suffice

Watson and Kontinen beat the number 4 seeds in straight sets to go into the quarter finals. Watson and her Finnish partner are unseeded and presumably haven't played much in the last year, but were Wimbledon Champions in 2016. Kontinen has also gone through in the men's doubles.

What a mixed doubles match lasting two and a half hours. GB's Skupski and Rae won 2 sets to one by taking the final set 9-7. They meet Hengis and Murray in the quarter finals.

Great day on Centre Court this afternoon. Second match is Konta v Williams, followed by Murray/Hingis v Skupski/Rae. The first match will be used for British supporters to settle in their seats and sort out their picnics. :)

Konta lost the first set....she had her chance in the game before...have to take your chances against a quality player like Venus.

At what point in the match does Konta become Hungarian/Australian again? Do we wait until she has lost, or do we revoke her Britishness when it looks like Williams is coasting through? <laugh>

The difference between Konta and Williams opening up a bit now, but Jo is coming into her prime so will have other chances.

Konta loses, but she should be proud of her run. Her forehand let her down today, far too many errors. Still, she will be in the top 5 in the world rankings next week, which when you think she was 167th a year ago is amazing progress.

If she doesn't win 4 Grand Slams next year, her fans will be booing her :)

Big laugh at Wimbledon. For some reason a very fat man is wearing spare clothes belonging to Kim Klijsters and joining in a Ladies Invitational match. Tennis clothes must be extremely stretchy. :)

Murray/Hingis v Kontinen/Watson in mixed double finals. Tough one to call or know who I will support....though Kontinen and Watson play so well, it may be them.

Excellent we can't lose as we're guaranteed a British winner. Watson/Kontinen for me but they're the underdogs. I always like the mixed doubles.
