West Ham v Watford. After an annoying international break we are back for the next installment in this 38 game battle. The newly assembled Hornet´s squad travel to the Hammer´s new stadium in search of their first win of the season. This is early days in the season and credit has to be given to Watford´s owners for the new players brought in. Ighalo thinks the goals will start flowing again, however, this time Watford also have more fire power options if the top two don´t produce. The Hammers haven´t started too brightly either but they do have a win against Bournemouth sandwiched between losses to Chelsea and Manchester City. With Payet, Lanzini and unsurprisingly Carroll doubts, amongst others, this might be a good time to play Bilic´s team. The West Ham faithful on KUMB (http://www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=165331) seem to be very confident.
I'd feel a bit better about this match if this is not happening http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...31091.Hammers_star_Payet_set_to_face_Hornets/ That said I feel cautiously optimistic that we'll get something from the game.
I came across a West Ham program today from 7th January 1977-8 season when we played them away in the FA Cup third round. We were still in Division 4, but after 24 games we were 7 points clear of second place Southend. Our team that day was: 1. Rankin 2. Geidmintis 3. Pritchett 4. Booth 5. Bolton 6. Garner 7. Downes 8. Blissett 9. Jenkins 10. Joslyn 11. Mayes We lost 1-0 which looking at some of their players was no disgrace. Frank Lampard, Billy Bonds, Tommy Taylor, Alan Curbishly, Alan Devonshire, Bryan Robson, and Trevor Brooking. No putting out the reserves in those days. Looking at the then league table there are just the three teams who are currently in the premier division. Us and ............... See if you can guess.
if you look at the National League table there are 10teams we used to play on a regular basis in the 50's , 60's and even the 70's We really have been fortunate
Spot on Duggie. Interesting to see also which clubs were then, but are no longer in the top division. Forest, who were top, Coventry, Norwich, Leeds, Derby, Villa, Ipswich, Wolves, Brum, Bristol City, QPR and Newcastle.
I was at that game against West Ham, the TV pundits thought we were unlucky not to get the draw and a replay at Vicarage Road A year later we were beating Man Untied at Old Trafford in the league cup
If we had earned that replay standing tickets were priced at 80p for adults and 50p for children. The previous season the average home attendance was 6,035. Amazing what you can glean from old programmes.
Three of our team were in the side that finished runners up in the top tier. Mayes went to Chelsea (but didn't do much their) and Pritchett was in the 2nd division promotion side ( i think).
