West Brom are battling an unnamed Italian side in their bid to bring former midfielder Zoltan Gera back to the club, the Independent reports.

The 32-year-old is available on a free transfer after his contract with Fulham ended last month.

The Hungary international was a popular figure at the Hawthorns during a four-year spell there, which came to an end when he moved to Craven Cottage in the summer of 2008.

Albion want to tie up a deal with Gera before the end of the week, but his agent claims an Italian side are also in the reckoning.

His agent, Vladan Filipovic, said: "I can't say anything concrete about Zoltan Gera yet - but there is nothing to worry about regarding his future.

"Maybe this week will be decisive but his future will be decided, for sure, by the beginning of July.

"We know he will leave Fulham but it is conceivable he would like to stay in England.

"A lot of clubs are interested in signing him. There is interest as well from a Serie A team."
