For 20 years, Gooners have been treated to a "We Finished 4th Again" DVD, but this season it is likely that they will have to make do with a "We Really Do Love The Europey League Despite Ripping The Piss Out Of It For Twenty Years Every Time Spurs Got To Play In It" DVD.

Do you lads think that Wenger should be given a "trophy" for finishing in the top 4 over the last 20 years?

It is a bare minimum expectation for a club with the resources and players of Arsenal. Although he doesn't quite say what the OP states he really does refer to it as a trophy which is bizzare. It will further divide the fans and club.

Arsenal have all the resources to win the league.

With Wenger gone and a couple of years transition they could well be champions.

Wenger and their owners are massively holding them back and absolutely everyone knows it.

4th an absolute minimum and the fact Wenger is so focussed by it is a worry for their fans.

 

When Chelsea wrongly sacked Ancelotti Arsenal should have sacked Wenger then and employed him. They would almost have certainly won the title a few times in those last five years.

For the PL top 6, the placings have a high correlation with the club "financial power"
(revenues etc) ranking. So on that basis, if you are Nth ranked in financial power, tis
fair to expect you finish Nth at the minimum come season end.

So if the Goons have been ranked at best 5th in financial power for a long time, then
finishing 4th and above for a prolonged period is an achievement.

However it begs the questions :

Since their last PL win, what has been the Goon stats on their financial ranking,
and how do they correlate with their PL finishes ??

Honestly, what Wenger has achieved keeping Arsenal consistently near the top for 20 years is a spectacular achievement. Let's not forget he's won titles with Arsenal too, even if fewer than fans would like in recent years.

If you're honest HIAG, you may not ever like Arsenal or want to be Arsenal, but I'm sure you would trade Wenger's achievements and league positions over the last twenty years with your own if you could.

Actually, in today's political climate it does if they wish to be known as ladies. You're supposed to respect people's gender identities in the 21st century.

 

It goes without saying that I would like Spurs to have been more successful over the last 30-odd years. We've won the od cup in that time, including a European trophy, but it's not enough.

Then again, if we were sat here at the end of the 60s, I'm sure Gooners would tell you that they wished they'd had more of the success that Spurs had had.

It's all relative. It comes and goes in cycles.

Spurs had had their time, and Arsenal have had theirs.
