He's just bitter because he got the hook from Walsall. It's true there are good managers in the lower leagues, but it's just as much of a punt getting one in as it is a foreign manager. At least Silva has managed in the Champion's League and has a very good winning mentality.
What about Mike Phelan's 'winning mentality'? SAF's asst for 3 PL titles, 1 World Club Cup, 2 League Cup wins and runners up in two CL Finals.
So if, as you say, it's a punt getting a L1/Championship manager why don't guys like Graham Alexander, Gary Rowett get a chance? They have the same winning mentality, they're steeped in the English game ...... as Merson said, why aren't better teams coming in for Sean Dyche? For every Pochettino there's a handfull of Christian Gross'
Maybe cos foreign managers are more articulate in a second language than some of ours in their mother tongue?
I can't think of a worse reason for appointing a foreign manager over a British one than that ...... you have other nuggets on appointing a manager?
A better team might come in for Sean Dyche, I imagine plenty of bigger clubs are looking at Eddie Howe.
I discussed this the other day. How much did Phelan actually do under Fergie? By his own admission Fergie was a control freak who controlled almost everything humanly possible.
Perhaps he just appointed Phelan to do his BBC interviews? Clement at Swansea has had a similar asst role at Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Surely being in and around top table European managers means you learn some tricks of the trade?
Ofcourse But being a number two and the main man are completely different and being around a good manager doesn't mean you can do it Phelan was the coach at utd, did the training ground stuff
I'd argue that the most successful managers have charisma; an innate quality that can neither be learned nor taught.
You'd hope they'd learn something. But not too many who operated under the very best managers have actually gone on to achieve much of note.
Not far off! Just seen the trailer for Trainspotting 2. Watched the original in the states 20 years ago with English sub-titles from start to finish. Yanks couldn't understand a word.
