Many will know already that Everton run out to the theme tune from famous television series Z-Cars, which ran for 16 years from 1962 to 1978. The tune has been synonymous with Goodison Park for more than 50 years, but perhaps less well known is the fact it has also been used by Watford teams for nearly as long. Hornets manager Bill McGarry was a big fan of the programme and introduced the theme, based on traditional folk song Johnny Todd, a couple of years later ahead of a long unbeaten run. Head to Head and Other Facts Watford haven't beaten Everton in any competition since March 1987, when they won 2-1 at Vicarage Road. Luther Blissett and Mark Falco scored for Watford that day. Everton are unbeaten in 11 successive games against Watford - they had won nine in a row before drawing both Premier League meetings last season. Watford have conceded a league-high 11 goals from opposition crosses this season. The Hornets have kept only one clean sheet in their last 12 Premier League home matches, but they have only failed to score twice themselves in this run as well. Watford Team News: Watford could be boosted by the return of Daryl Janmaat for Saturday's game against Everton. The Dutch international missed last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at West Brom after a clash of heads with Adrian Mariappa in training prior to the game. Janmaat suffered a deep cut to his face and was ruled out of the Baggies game. Younes Kaboul remains a doubt for Walter Mazzarri’s side after making slower progress from his muscle injury which also forced him to miss out on the trip to the Hawthorns. Watford will be able to recall both Valon Behrami and Miguel Britos after they served their one-match suspensions. But the Hornets will be without Roberto Pereyra after he was sent off against the Baggies. Pereyra’s automatic three-match ban for violent conduct following his dismissal has been reduced on appeal. Thanks OFH. Going to combine the game with a bit of Xmas shopping if I can get in the car park...can't believe we haven't beaten Everton since 1987! Mmm, which Watford (and Everton!) will turn up and what does WM do about the missing Pereyra? Not sure I've got the answers to any of this but looking forward to the game! COYH!
Team: Gomes (GK); Zuniga, Prödl, Britos, Holebas; Guedioura, Behrami, Capoue; Amrabat, Okaka, Deeney Subs: Pantilimon (GK), Kabasele, Janmaat, Watson, Success, Sinclair, Ighalo.
Well - after a bit of an awful start, we manage to go in level at HT. Those first 15-20 minutes or so probably rank as bad as anything we've seen for a couple of seasons - poor first touch, under hit passes, over hit passes and defenders lossing their man - all giving Everton too much possession, too much time on the ball, and the lead. Brilliant effort from Okaka for the equaliser though. Finished the half strongly thanks to Okaka and Amrabat - who has Baines panicking & running around in circles.
I cannot believe this - we are just sitting back inviting them into our penalty area. No attacking intention whatsoever...
A good win and generally postive display even if it was nervy at the end! Prodl and Okaka very impressive alongside Amrabat.
Who is that twit of a 'pundit' on NBC? According to him, that was a bad loss for Everton as most the Watford team 'were Championship players two seasons ago'...
