Saw a story today that Palace could be bought out by Tony Adams and a consortium. If that's his Chinese or far east conections that he is involved with at Grenada then they plan to do the same sort of thing that we do. If so will they be successful like us? Or more like Charlton have so far ended up?
Im sure someone can help but last season we did not have 25 players because we did not have 8 home grown and 17 overseas players but we have now signed 3 home grown so most of last season players can stay ?
Others are better at this than me but 17 overseas + 8 home grown + as many under 20 or 21 as we wish which I believe can even include overseas players. So this year we should have a much larger squad to choose from.
"After the closing of the summer transfer window each Premier League club had a deadline of 4pm on 1 September to submit a squad list containing no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the "Home Grown Player" (HGP) criteria. The remainder of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be Home Grown. An HGP means a player who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21). Clubs are able to supplement their squads with unlimited additional players under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences." So Bachmann. for example, although Austrian and 23 years old, having been at Stoke for 6 seasons is, as far as I read it, classed as Home Grown. According to my reading of the current situation is we have the 16 not home grown, (Djedje makes the squad, and Arlauskis and Behrami do not) Gomes, Big Pants, Janmaat, Britos, Prodl, Kaboul, Holebas, Fenenia, DjeDje, Kabasele, Amrabat, Doucoure, Capoue, Pereyra, Zarate, Okaka Home grown, over 21 we have 10 at present, so I assume Marriappa and Hoban may unfortunately miss out, unless Bachmann is loaned out. Bachmann, Cathcart, Mariappa, Hoban, Hughes, Cleverley, Chalobah, Watson, Deeney, Gray The others that we may consider as in or around the 1st team squad are from the "unlimited additional players under the age of 21" pool Sinclair is not 21until September Success turned 21 is January, so I read "under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences" meaning as he was 20 on 1st Jan he is classed as outside the 25. Richarlison is 20 Mason, Pereira, Rowan, Eleftheriou, etc are all under 21
Of course, the 25 can be made up less than 17 non home grown and more than 8 home grown, so we could have all 10 of those termed as Home Grown, and 15 of the non home grown, assuming Djedje does not make the final 25.
Thanks for explaining that. Except 25-19 = 9 (not 8) so I assume only one of the home grown lot will miss out. However, I cannot imagine that the transfer dealings are complete so the picture may look a lot different on 1st September! I suppose the only thing for certain is that the new signings WILL be in the 25.
Yes, I was basing that on 25-17 maximum non home grown (i.e. 8), but then corrected myself the following post, because the 25 can of course include less than 17 non home-grown and therefore more than 8 home grown.
interesting piece on BBC Sport: http://www.not606.com/threads/watford-short-news-items.43575/page-512 the most relevant bit for us: In the Premier League, what were known as Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules in place from 2014-16 limited the increases clubs could make in spending on players between seasons that were funded purely by new broadcast revenue. They could, however, make bigger increases in player spending every year if they had more of their "own revenue", which could come from new commercial or sponsorship deals, profit from player sales, rising matchday income - such as an increase in ticket sales - or Uefa prize money from appearing, for instance, in the Champions League. Clubs which could not satisfy those criteria were capped on any increases in player spending between seasons. under the new rules it appears the same thing but gauged over 3 year periods. So our kit and sponsorship deals are very important to us and indeed the sale of players. We may see us sell players to Udinese just to gain an investment advantage.
Decent, balanced and well written article for once! https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/aug/10/premier-league-2017-18-preview-no18-watford
Just seems another way to protect the big boys who already have large income streams... I know it protects clubs but can't see there being another ITV Digital collapse.
The Head Coach did confirm Deeney would be retaining the captain’s armband. “I don’t have reason to change our captain,” said Silva. “Ben Watson and Gomes are our sub captains.” Does this suggest that Ben Watson will be staying at the club?
In his press conference Silva said that they are looking to sign a left back because there is only the one. He would not say which players were being looked at, but suggested there would be more signings before the window closed.
